Johnny Mann deserved every year he got in prison and more. The man was a threat to society. If you people actually think he wouldn't burn you out in a heartbeat just because you disagreed with him you are badly mistaken. Johnny didn't take any bait, he's the one that initiated the entire operation and THEN the feds got wind of it and set up a sting to bring him down! The other cops involved are the ones that fell for the bait! His family suffered dearly for his crimes and that alone makes him lower than a snake in my book! A MAN puts their family and its well being first, not greed!! A PARENT certainly has no business setting THAT TYPE OF EXAMPLE for their child, ESPECIALLY when you're the law!!! YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET YOUR HEADS OUTTA YOUR BUTTS AND OPEN YOUR EYES!!

After a convict serves their time they should be given a chance. I also wish him the best. I wish today's local dealers would get locked up. Pills flow freely in Lee county. They may have tried to make an example of a crooked cop but they didn't stop corruption nor the drug trade!

Only one sheriff since the early 80's has not gone to jail to present day. Pelfrey. Glad he has a job now. Johnny was taken as an example and over punished.like him or not, he would arrest anyone.
If had better education he would not have fell for the bait.
its only because he did not get caught. ask eddie williams,an chrissie fox about him,an there were some more that should have went, danny towsend was asked to step down, some people were just afraid of johnny, he was set up by james richerson, i know some people remember some of this, johnny did not deserve what he got,

You people need to get a clue! I remember very well like it was yesterday, James Richerson and all. If only you poor people really knew what Johnny Mann is capable of and the things he did. You darned straight the people were afraid of him, they KNEW to be! He took payoffs, bribes, etc. He came when he was called but he also CHOSE who to arrest and who not too, who to help and who not too. He would warn people that he had warrants on so that they could hide because he either knew them or was dealing for them and THAT'S A FACT!!! He didn't go by any law except his own! You all honestly have no clue how deeply he was connected and you would be shocked at the "prominent" ones right in Beattyville that were knee deep with him and are still walking the streets. THOSE people best be watching their backs in my opinion.

so we should just forget what old john done but poor old Doug Crookenburg got his wrongful acts thrown in his face til he finally lost the sheriffs race.

doug should have never been pardoned. But he got pardoned because he played both ends of the stick. he was a crook and a rat.

John Manns was a crook and a bully. The public should be fore-warned of his release because no one knows what he's been doing while in prison? Is he still a bully? How often did he get thrown into solitare confinement?

He made the threat that people will pay when he gets out, is he capable of following through on his threat?

I agree, instead of the tax payers keeping people like John up for too many years (I bet he's gained a lot of weight) They should be sent off to a foreign land and forced to fight in wars or work on a chain gang.

Lee County sure had a lot less crime when Johnny was sheriff. He wasn't afraid to stand up to anybody. Look at our county now and what it has become. He has paid a much bigger price then anyone else has who was arested at the time. He at least had the guts to stand up for what he thought was right and did not back down maybe so rich people in Lee County didnt want him back because he wasn't so easy to control

your right there was less crime when john was sheriff cuz by the time he got done, EVERYONE was a criminal, it was just a matter of who in the county was the worse criminal. The reason he got more time then anyone else is because he threatened to harm the people who got him put where he belonged. he wanted to blame everyone but himself for his convictions. That being said, we can assume the jury seen that not only did Johnny Mannís break the law while wearing a badge but he refused to admit his mistakes and by doing so, obviously needed to be corrected and taught a lesson.

When going up for parole, a convict has to admit that he done wrong before a parole board would even consider his release. Most the time, when going through the court system, if the accused would plead guilty (as in admitting his wrong doing) he is offered a lesser sentence. Johnny refused to admit any wrong doing when the whole world knows that what he did while sheriff of Lee co. was wrong.

Johnny Manns would have done been out had it not been for his threats of bodily harm to people who just wanted to see his wrongs made right. And it is my belief that you and anyone else who wants to condone a convicts actions, should be right there with him.
