I just heard David Lyons is the new high school vice principal. Is that true? Does this mean he will be the next principal?

This is the third thread like this one started in the past three days. You're probably the person who has started each one and apparently you aren't getting whatever responses of outrage you've been expecting so maybe you should just give it a rest.

Well I am a firm believer in the past is the past, whatever the case was years ago, is done and over with, we are all human and we all make mistakes. The incident that happened years ago is not my concern with him becomingthe asst. principal of the TWO schools. My concern is I have witnessed first hand his interaction with the kids, he's been an artchery coach for 3 yrs and I have personally watched kids sit and text throughout practices and him not get them up and practicing, not to mention what are his qualifications for this position? Teaching a handful of kids at a time? He didn't handle his temp position last year as the athletics director very well, bullies that shove team mates were never punished, not by him, the coach or the principal! I must agree not the best choice for the job, some say well who else is there? Let's see have the school board tried going out of county to fill such an important position? If they can't find a highly qualified person for the position than it's time to look elsewhere and ask for help from Frankfort if need be. It's our kids and the future of the community that we are talking about. This is very upsetting to me, I have two kids in highschool and it bothers me that we are going to have a asst. principal that will be more friends with the students than someone who will discipline them. My opinion, he'll be another Mr. Land, kids will love him, but our school will suffer.

It's easy to comment on topix anonymously isn't it? If you think the school board and superintendent aren't doing their job, there are ways to get your questions answered. Of course, you wouldn't be able to hide like you can here.

My impressions of David? He cares about the kids. He's young and has some things to learn. He is capable of growing into the job. The new Principal will be a good mentor. If things don't work out, a new person can be hired. No one knows how anyone will do in any position.

Chuck Caudill Jr., first off, this is a topix discussion of something that is actually important to our community, which is the first in awhile to show up on topix. Everyone has a right to an opinion wether it be anonymous or not. That is the beauty of our country, not everyone has to be the same, some may choose to stay anonymous on here and not at the actual meetings, some may only choose to say things with their name attached, it's everyones personal choice, so please stop knocking people for choosing to say their opinion without putting their name to it on here. I personally am known at the school board by my voice, meaning they know who I am when I call to voice my concern without even telling my name. So for some like myself that choose to stay anonymous on here am well known for voicing my opinion openly to the appropriate individuals. With that being said, I do hope my fears of Mr. Lyons not filling the positions are all wrong, for our childrens sake. But it's disturbing to me when I mention to my children, without voicing my concerns that one has the same opinion and fears as I do. As for him being capable of growing into the job, I'm sorry but I don't feel an asst. principal job is where someone needs to grow into the position, it is a position that should be filled by someone who has already grew, experience is very important when filling an important position as asst. principal. I am not knocking Mr. Lyons as a person, I think he is a very nice man, with a beautiful family. This isn't about his character, it's about his qualifications for the position he is filling.

Just out of curiosity, how do you suppose anyone who has grown and has experience in this position would have gotten that experience? Everyone with experience in anything first started with no experience. Most start just as Mr. Land. They teach for several years, which he has, then move into a position as assistant principal or principal. Some even skip the step he is taking and move straight into a job as a principal. I personally feel like he will do a good job. He knows the kids in the schools and what issues they may have. He's proven his willingness to put in extra time with students. If it weren't for him helping with the archery team at the grade school they probably wouldn't have had one. He did that on top of coaching the high school archery team and his regular teaching duties. Later in the year he took over as AD when the other people who had been doing it quit. It seems to me that he has proven he's willing to go above and beyond his regular teaching duties and is willing to step up and do what needs to be done when others won't. It seems to me that he's just the kind of person people get on here all the time and say we need in our schools. Plus somebody was saying that we should go out of the county and get somebody but if they'd hired from outside the county somebody would be griping about not giving local people a chance. You can't win in this county! It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. I support Mr. Land.

Waaah waaaah waaaaaah. Call the waaaahmbulance because you don't want them to know who is doing the complaining.

If you care that much about your kid's education, then you will stand up and proudly have your name/face/voice attached to those concerns.

If you're afraid to call the superintendent to gripe, then write a letter and sign it "A Concerned Parent."

It's highly doubtful that Jimmy Evans or any of the board members are going to read your rantings on Topix to know that you are concerned about Mr. Lyons' credentials.

JAT,
Everyone does have a right to an opinion, but if this is about discussing what's best for the children, you shouldn't be afraid to share it without being hidden.

as long as someone is making a valid point to the pros and cons of this debate and not using topix just to deliberately trash someone i dont see any problem with whatever name you use.
