I worked at LAC a few years ago. They didn't pay very much at all then and to the best of my knowledge they start at the same rate as they did 8ish years ago. Kind of hard to believe that given the radical increase in the cost of living that they would seriously offer a grown man $7.97/hour to deal with disease ridden felons and occasionally carry a gun with the possibility that he might have to use it. C'mon, even temp service jobs start at way more than that. Hell, the sleepy 19 year old working at the register at the Home Depot make more than that. Wasn't a bad place to work with the schedule and all, but thats a place who's workforce could SERIOUSLY benefit from representation. Don't get me wrong, Ive done a healthy bit of Union-backed work in the last few years and Ive saw the good and the bad from organized labor. LAC....is a special case. The workforce could only benefit. After all, when your the lowest paid CCA facility, the only way to go is up.

I don't make enough to support my family. I'm desperate to find another job that pays me more than my allowance when I was 15 years old. It's pathetic that a grown man don't even make enough money to be able to pay his bills. Yes- Yes-Yes-Yes Lac NEEDS a union.

I've never been a fan of unions. If LAC unionized, I can predict what will happen. CCA will not agree to the demands and the union will call a strike. LAC will have no trouble finding replacement workers (if they can pass drug tests) because people are desperate for jobs around here. The union members will be out there picketing and their replacements will be inside earning a paycheck.

But hasn't CCA went through over half of the people living in the surrounding counties? I agree with you 'Not a union fan' that CCA would probably not meet the demands, though. Overall I think that if the union were allowed to operate the way that they are supposed to, it might just do CCA a world of good.

They can barely keep people as it is. The facility has been chronically understaffed for some time now. They've been working round-the-clock overtime for months. The neighboring facility at Otter Creek has been begging for LAC personnel assistance. Even then, it takes weeks to train new employees and months for them to acquire enough experience to be even remotely effective. If people are so desperate for work they have a wide open door available to them right now. Besides, there are already two CCA facilities that have representation for the workers. Both of those facilities are among the best places to work at within the bounds of CCA. Its not just the pay. There would be a wide variety of benefits to the workforce. I would find it interesting to see a poll on the matter directed toward just employees. I think the results wou;d be staggeringly lopsided lol.

I'm sort of embarrased to say it, but I have been employyed at CCA-LAC for 12 years. I have never in my entire life seen a place that needed Union representation any worse that what LAC DOES... If there are ANY union reps out there, we need you and we need you right quick. The supervision at LAC is on a whole other level when it comes to favortism and discrimination, not to mention total incompetence. Supervisors buddy-up with their pals and leave out the officers who are actually worth their weight and come in everyday to do their jobs... And Upper Management sits idly by and pretends that nothing is happening... That's precisely why LAC needs a Union. If the supervisors were held to a certain accountability level, then maybe they would have to shape up or ship out... UNION REPRESENTATION NOW!!!!!!!!!

I worked there up until right after the riot. All that place was about was way too much politics and way too much favortism on top of the supervisors not having a clue of what they were doing. JOKE! That's the best way that I can sum up LAC in a nutshell. They hire and promote the most incompetent people and then expect to have things run smoothly... Not only that but the terrible way that they treat their staff is hard to even imagiine unless you work there. I'm so glad that I got out a few years back. Best move that I ever made... My advice to anyone working there is not to hold your breath for a union to make things more bearable for you, because that will never happen. The top brass will make sure that a union vote doesn't happen, because they wouldn't hesitate to fire anybody who even attempted to do so. Facts are the facts... Words of Wisdom... When you step in SHIT you wipe it off and keep going, never looking back. That would be my recommendation to the employees at LAC!

Damn right that place needs a union. And it sure as hell looks as though someone has recently been voting "NO" a lot. Who could that be? Hmmmm... Could it possibly be one of LAC's finest kiss asses? Could it be the jerkoff who claimed that they had received 3 raises in 3 years even though their had been a wage-increase freeze right after evaluations in '08 all the way through '11? Probably so. Some people would suck ass no matter what.

Just wanting to feed my family man. Yes, we need a union to help us get fair wages. I'm sorry, but in a hazardous enviornment where you are working around murderers, rapists and all sorts of violent scum, you need to be getting paid for it. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

They should close that shit hole down. Their new Warden Norman McClure is right when he said a meeting of Mormon Elders that, "The employees at L.A.C. are a joke."

What I know about the prison is, that most of their employees come from the surrounding counties. It does little to help Lee county. The prison buys little other than gas from this area. They no longer have a community service detail. Other than the property tax they pay the county. How do they improve Lee county?

All the prison has is a bunch of low lifes swollen head bosses running around treating people like sh it just because they happen to have stripes on their shoulders. If you took the IQs of all of the supervisors at LAC and added them all up, I still don't think they would reach triple digits! Just a bunch of low lifes who couldn't hack working anywhere else on a power trip

I worked there for over 2 years and don't know how I actually stayed there that long. The place is a joke. They treat you like crap and EXPECT for you to love your job. Thank God I got out of there when I did. If there was a union in place, that place would probably be tolerable.

I worked there for a long time and did the smartest thing that I could have ever done which was to throw down the yard keys and walk off. F uck that place. I've never seen a place operated so badly in my life. Myself and my future wife was sexually harassed there by one of the captains and upper management allowed it. That place needs to seriously close down. Beattyville doesn't need LAC around.
