You can see the opening where a road went down to the river's edge. That road was built in 1816 and the gap can still be seen in a 1900 photo. That road was built to run right next to the creek.
After the new cast iron bridge was completed in 1839 Dunlap's Creek was rerouted under the new cast iron bridge. Buildings were erected on top of the old creek bed and that's why they crumbled. |
