Voice of the People: Explain gas prices differences

Mr. Simon...You have a very good question that needs to be answered. I checked several sites about state gas taxes: Arizona and New Mexico have virtually the same gas tax rate. So what gives with our gas being more expensive???

WHY? Why do they charge so much more? The answer to that is like the answer to so many other WHY's ....BECAUSE THEY CAN. And because we the people don't stick together. What would happen if everyone went a block or two out of their way (in Deming) and only went to the cheapest station? There would be a price war so fast, heads would turn. OR if Hurley, Barard, Santa Clara residents went to Deming for gas. You KNOW they go to Deming for other things ..why not get gas while you're there. We're like robots doing what we're told accepting things we don't have to accept but are too stupid lazy to try and change....let's just sit on our tails and whine about it....the American way!

Mr. Simon, I wish you could get to the bottom of the Silver City overpriced gasoline. Newspapers and politicians should look into the fact that Silver City has its own oil cartel. The excuses we get from Porter Oil, i.e., Chevron and Griffin's Propane, i.e. Exxon, is we are so far off the interstate that it costs more to truck the gasoline to Silver. That is bull. Safford is just as far off the interstate and the gasoline is alot cheaper in Safford than here. I don't understand why Santa Fe or the Feds don't do something about the overpricing in Silver.

They would explain the "DELIVERY ZONE SYSTEM"
they use.
They have been explaining the system since 1973.
But you all don't listen.
The USPS, UPS and FedEx use the same system.
But you never question them.

Can we all say PRICE FIXING?????

Here in CA.....temporarily, and local gas is $2.79.9 today (11-16-09) in Southern part of state. Several weeks ago it was over $3.05.9 for regular unleaded, but has dropped, as refineries have completed the switch-over to winter blends. Seems as if less cars on Freeways, also.

Check out Flying J's and Pilot fuel prices in Lordsburg.

Gas in Tucson AZ is $2.33 per gallon. 20 miles south, it is $2.66 per gallon. 300 miles east, it's $2.80 per gallon. What can we say about these gas prices.

Write letters to your congressman/woman and tell them that you want an investigation into price fixing of gasoline in NM, AZ and you will be heard.

While you have your congress person on the phone, ask they why no one seems to be doing anything about the cruption in the Deming Police department. We have to worry enough about the hoodlums selling drugs and alcohol to our children without the cops doing it.

I called KOB TV news to ask why they reported that Santa Fe, NM. has always had the highest gas prices in the state. Silver City, has always had the highest prices. Locals here drive to Deming or Lordsburg to fill up and come home and use the gas for the week or duration only to head back for a refill. I was told that KOB TV only report the facts given them by AAA NM. and that I would need to talk to them. Well it was Thanksgiving so I waited until the following Monday. When I called I was told to speak with a government official and given a phone number. Upon calling I was placed on hold and told I would receive a call back in ten minutes. An hour later a woman called and told me they only report the facts based on studies done by Santa Fe, NM. So go figure, we either live with it or keep making calls and getting the run around until someone finally steps up to the plate and does something about it. I for one am sick and tired of paying for someones new vehicle, home or Christmas. Aren't you? What are you going to do about it. I did noticed that within 24hrs of placing my call the prices came down a whole 10 cents.
