How does Les Fillingame think residents could access a marina by walking down a sea wall funded by federal funds? Hey Les - look up The ADA Act, stupid.

If not for the walkway, how were all those millionaires who own yachts going to come in and spend their money to save/infuse this town with money? How do you pay good money designing a marina for plans to overlook such a "minor" detail, shouldn't this have been part of the original plan? It makes me wonder if the marina is the goal. I am a new to the area, and started watching this city's threads about a year ago. Something just isn't right. File this with things that make you go Hmmm.

Not invested just curious.

It is quite obvious that none of you are familiar with this project. If you were, this topic would not be pointed at Mayor Les Fillingame, but would be pointed towards the City Council members who voted for this proposed plan. Remember...the Mayor has NO vote on ANY matter. He can only ask for approval. Should the Council see fit, they can approve. If they disagree, they can deny.

This plan for the marina did not happen over night. This began under Mayor Eddie Favre's administration and took several years of studies and planning to come together BEFORE being presented for FINAL APPROVAL by the City Council. This was discussed during many Council meetings, AND special public hearings were held to discuss the matter and to get public opinion.

Do you honestly think that the Mayor has that much power or ability to do things such as this on his own? Absolutely not. Again, it is the Council who decides yay or nay.

If you were at any of these meetings, you would know that when it was asked how people would access the marina or the pier, the Mayor addressed the question and pointed out the fact that the Council approved the plan where people would park in the marina and have access from there. It was also discussed the possibilities of golf cart type services to bring people from their boat slips up to Beach Blvd.

So in closing....

To "How is it" and to "John"...if you live in the area your screen name says, you really don't have much to worry about. You're not a resident and should not be concerned. Again, if you were attending any meetings you would know that casinos (I'm going to assume that your spelling of caino is supposed to be C-A-S-I-N-O) are not allowed in this area and the COUNCIL would have to approve any such request to change the zoning.

To "How is it"...you refer to the Mayor as in your words "stupid". Do you know this mans education? Agree or disagree with him politically, I would put this mans intelligence, integrity, and ingenuity against any other elected official in this state. So before you stoop to name calling, check the facts and know who and what you are talking about.

To "Kate the traveling nurse"...as you said you are new to the area. I hope that you will find our home town to be an enjoyable place and that you too will call it "home". But, do not believe everything you read on these blogs or in the Sea Coast Echo for that matter. Attend the Council meetings, meet with the Mayor or his staff, and get factual information. I guarantee that you will walk away from that truly informed and confident that the City is in excellent hands.

Why not put the issue to vote? Cause you know What the outcome would be.

Since your from Gulfport you know that with your slightly larger population you can only fill a little over one third of the slips at the new marina. You've got to be dense to think BSL could do better. BSL is going to fail, hence a new Casino. These birds are way ahead of you.

Businesses not coming, sales tax down. Insurance up.
Property tax income down. 3 new restaurants only hiring new employees. Very little construction. Still no grocery. Overall costs including city's going up.
This Mayor and the City Council better NOW get off their ass## and make something happen.
They're all well in to their terms.
Folks, I'm down right concerned, I don't care what their names are.
Somethings need to start happening!

"John", "How is it" and "Kate the traveling nurse" (that's a good one - "Kate" is as new to the area as the rest of us are..lol) really need to do better than this. Ya'll are getting boring with the same, ignorant ranting.

And your suggestions are??? Maybe you think our mayor and city council can accomplish something that all of congress, the president and all other world leaders can't seem to do - improve the country's economy, reduce unemployment, improve the housing market, give relief in health care and insurance, lower the cost of living etc etc etc (this list could go on forever). BUT, if YOU have some fix for it all I'd sure like to hear it.

What are you proposing to be put to a vote?? Are you speaking of the marina project?? If so, again if you attended any meeting, you would know that at the public hearing hearing held at Bay High School to accommodate large numbers of people who may want to attend...the OVERWHELMING number of people that spoke at the meeting were IN FAVOR of the proposed project. At the last public hearing held at the council chamber before they (the COUNCIL) voted to APPROVE the plan, there was only 1 person opposed and one person who said they were neither for nor against but did ask a few questions. Everyone else spoke in IN FAVOR or the project.

Again, my question to you "John" is...what do you want put to a vote?? This project is fully paid for with GRANT money. The citizens of Bay St. Louis had an opportunity to speak. The Council that they elected to represent them listened to what they had to say and the COUNCIL voted IN FAVOR of this project.

Now...back to my original point on my previous post...why is this blog titled Les Fillingame and why is the blame placed on the Mayor when he does not and can not vote on the matter?? As another person commented, its the same type of mentality and the same type people stirring trouble when they have no validity in their statements.

I am in total agreement with "Cretins"...what is your solution to the problem?? What are the "somethings" that you say need to start happening and how would you recommend the City do these things? I love when the fingers start pointing and tongues start wagging, but no one wants to be a part of the solution. Would you recommend that the City refuse the grant money or not have even applied for the grant money to help bring anything to the City? Would you recommend that the City sit back and live in today's world...or better yet live in the past...and not look to the future?? Time are tough in these times we live in. They are tough in the State of Mississippi, across the entire United States of America, and around the world and in EVERY country on this planet. BUT...it will not always be tough and if the City of Bay St. Louis sat back and did nothing to look to the future and to better itself in the long run, it would be no better than you by complaining and not being a part of a solution or attempting to give a solution to what you see or think may be wrong.

I wasn't pointing fingers at individuals, just elected bodies to NOT SIT ON IDLE HANDS and please start trying, discussing, improving our own town and explore every and all options. Quit yesterday's finger pointing and knocks and exhaust EVERY oppportunity that we find today and this day forward. I PERSONAALY feel that they spend too much time on "yesterday" not tomorrow. All I'm asking for is NOT STOP TRYING to find our own answers. Thank you all.

And YOUR suggestions?? Since this is OUR home town, it does take EVERYONE to help out. If there are positive suggestions and not just whining and moaning, share them. Knowing how proactive Mayor Fillingame and his staff are, I'm sure that they would LOVE to hear something new, refreshing, and hopefully ingenious.

Let's play a game. The game is called "What if..." All you (or anyone else for that matter) have to do is answer the question "What if..." So, "What if...you were Mayor or a Council member of the City of Bay St. Louis, what would you do for (as in your own words)'improving our own town and explore every and all options'?"

Don't waste your time with these fools. Obviously they have issues and they are just scrambling to find something "wrong" with the mayor. They remind me of jilted bullies in a playground and will say anything for a smidgen of atention.

Then explain your point. You titled this Les Fillingame. Les Fillingame did not make the plan for the marina....nor could he approve the marina. As previously explained, people were supposed to access the marina and the Rutherford Pier from the LOWER parking area at the marina....which meets ALL of the ADA requirements.

That plan was presented to the CITY COUNCIL which is the governing body that can APPROVE or DENY. If they felt it was an issue, they were the only people that could have stopped OR changed it based on a majority vote.

But again....PLEASE explain your point that ALL of us missed.

How could we have gotten off topic when you aren't even aware of who approved the marina?? We're trying to tell you in simple language so you'll understand: The mayor has NO input of whether or not a marina gets built. Basically the most he can do is voice his opinion. Hi Kettle. Meet Black. Calling him stupid? C'mon...that was below the belt and uncalled for.
