Any one know if Evans is coming back? For one I hope not. We need to get a coach back like Jimmy Manord and win again. He was the only one who could get enough kids out to play and stand up to the Mc Williams. They should can the principle for letting basketball coach tell players not to play football.

I hope he is gone. Also hope they fire bball coach if he really is telling players not to play football. Both basketball and baseball are good programs and so should football. Football is a mans sport....so Baxtert needs to man up and get the kids on the field.

Maynard was a bully that brought kids in from out of the county to play for Upperman. Yeah the team won but the kids from Baxter didnt get to play because he was playing his favorites all the time from out of the distrct.
That is why he isnt coaching.hmmmm bet you didnt know that.

Maynard played to win if u wasn't good enough to play that's your own fault. Check the record books and see who's name comes up they played for Maynard and are from Baxter like David Alllison

I myself think a new coach is a good thing, if he stands up to baseball and basketball. We had one kid that played either sport play this year. We are to small of a school not to have all the kids we can out on the field. Most teams that we play have all or most of the other two sports out there on the field on friday nights. And yes i have a kid out there playing.

We are a small school with a lot of good athletes just not a very good athletic program. The current coaching staff at upperman needs to be replaced completely. Yes, we need a winning coach such as Coach Maynard who did play the right players to win, not just the coaches kids and there friends. If my child was ready to play he played and when he messed up he did not play. The current staff could care less. You have to be a senior or a friend of the coaches kids to get on the field. As far as basketball and baseball they are at different seasons and I have had children that have played all three sports at upperman. The coaches of different sports should be backing each other up. The other programs help keep the kids in shape year round and help build better well rounded athletes. Some schools expect there athletes to participate in three sports or cross country in order to keep them in shape. I too hope the current staff will be dismissed from their job and someone who truely loves football and working with kids can be found. I hope he can look past a name or whose friend you are and can work with and train all the kids that came out for football.

Could not agree more. Now who do we call or talk to , to get ball rolling on a new coaching staff anne one that will stand up to the McWilliams? I know if current coaches are still there when school board vote comes up........the current baxter zone school board memeber will not get my vote.

I (for one) know how much time these coaches are spending at practice, games, and meetings for very little money. I once tried to estimate what one of the coaches was making per hour on his "football stipend"...and it was a shock to me. The fact is that they are dealing with a very small pool of talent (due to the size of the school) with little financial support and no strong tradition to uphold. If you think it is easy for the coaches and their families to lose week after week, think again.

Clearly you don't know the entire staff as well as you may think.

I agree with you on small school mall talent but your playing schools your size or smaller and losing......Montery, Whitehouse Heritage.....both way smaller enrollments, and except for LA and Stone, all others was relatively same size according to Tssaa website. Also the coach needs a backbone to stand up to McWilliams. The team wasn't much better under last coach but least looked sharper, more disciplined, and facilities were keep in better shape. Back to back 1-9 is not acceptable.

I have sat by and read all these remarks hoping someoone would explain things as they are. I agree with you completely. Thank You for your comment.
Sometimes looking at thing one way can be confusing and people can be harsh with their opinions. These coaches have families. They give up time from their families to coach. Some of us may not be the best at it but we try really hard to give back to our children and to our communities future.
Thanks again LiveLoveLaugh

I have read all these comments and some are good ones , and some not so good. I also have coached at the high school level. Winning is not everything. The way the team preforms, like hard as they can every play. If the have fumbles and penelties.....tells how prepared they were. Also, i do agree how sharpe the facilities are keep and players uniforms also weighs into it. Now if you get them to play hard, smart, mistake free (as you can) , and you don't win....well thats just sports. Now if you lose and you don't play smart, hard and mistake free ( for the most part)....thats on coaching. And I also agree that being a coach is hard on YOUR family. But take in consideration of the 30-70 other families making sacrafices for there kids to play football. They also have a stake in it. Coaches can change jobs and don't have to sit out a year. Players usally have no other options other than play for who is coach. It's on both sides. Back to back 1-9 in anyhting from horse shoes to football is not good. Seems to me there is a loss of conffidence here to go on top of the record so yea.....coaching change looks like the nest bet.

This was not said about the current coaching staff. This should be one of the qualities that we need to look for in a new coach.

1-9 is not exeptable and we all try as hard as we can. yes there has been a lot of bad calls by the coaches but there has been good ones to that we the player have not been able to capitalize on when we fumbling or throwing a bad pass or not catching the ball. and there has been a lot of penilities but thats what happens when you put all 7-8 seniors on both sides of the ball every week and not working with your younger people .so when your seniors need a break you have to put in a freshman or softmore who you never even work with in practice. and having to have a freshman quarter back is hard when he has not ever played that position in his life but he really came though for us when we needed him to even no we lost but we all have a lot of room for inprovment and will try our hardest to be the best we can.

I have a son who played for Upperman this year. The team was 1-9 and no one hated that worse than the players, coaches and parents. Coach Evans may not have been the best coach, but he cared about those young men and wanted to win. I have hope that his successor will be able to win, but he has a lot to overcome. The community and school administration has to be as devoted to the football program as they are to baseball and basketball. It would be nice for Upperman to have more fans than the visiting team at home games. We also need adminstrators who will deal with the issue of the basketball coaches not letting people play who are on the football team. That is ridiculous for a school the size of Upperman. Good luck to the team and the new coaching staff - Go Bees!

Well said! I'am tired of all the politics in sports. Politics is what keeps the sport programs at a recreational level. It also keeps scholarships away from the ones that deserve it who have talent and never get to play. Cornerstone and Upperman are very political in sports. These coaches know who they are and should step down for the sake of the kids.
