I have seen it happen time and again, a man leave Baxley, get years of experience, training and knowledge in law enforcement and then come back to Baxley only to never get anywhere in the political arena because so FEW people KNEW him.One would really need to come home and be here a few years, get involved in the county and THEN run for office. If people don't know you, chances are they won't vote for you.I wish the 4 CHALLENGERS the best of luck and may the best CHALLENGER win the sheriff's race!!

My vote on the republican ticket goes to Mr. Benny Deloach. Not only has he been in law enforcement all his life. He is a man of God. He is also a family man and a good husband to his wife that he married at a young age. This tells me he is a man of dedication. Not only to the people of this county. But to his wife of many years and family also. Hard in this day and time to find someone that can be so committed in all aspects of his life. So as far as my vote goes. I am looking for the man with the most dedication to the county, God and family. Because to be a good Sheriff you have to be good at all the rest.

Just wanted to say and I usually say nothing. I have spoken with all the candidates and Sheriff Deloach has the support of our family. I read his piece in the paper and I was more than impressed. After reading the post on here. I can see he is a Godly man with a dedication to his family also and the people of this community. Having lived here all his life. Truly gives him a an upper hand on knowing what it takes to help with the youth also. After talking with people here who have had kids that were helped by him. I am very impressed. As the previous post stated. You have to understand the dedication to family in order to be able to understand dedication in other aspects of life. So Mr. Benny you have the support of myself and my family.

BTW it depends on whose kids they are whether they get helped or not. Nice try S/

Johnson for Sheriff 2012 What specifically does he intend to do? What will he do differntly than Deloach? Sometimes 25 years of experience equals 1 years experience 25 times. How does he feel about the Dixon incident and the "drownings" of three souls? S/

Nice try S/ Wow sophie. I must have really hit a nerve there. To take the chance to come back like this and possibly slander yourself. You must really be mad. Well that is your problem. Since you trained people sophie. Did you apply for a job with law enforcement and get turned down? You could care less about anything. You just hate the sheriff for some reason. Anything good and wholesome. You seem to resent. As far as the Dixon case or any others. You have had people on here repeatedly asking to let it go. But you keep it going for your on venomous self pride. So don't play that with me. But, I will ask the sheriff about all the cold cases. Already talked with him about other situations and if you want to know. Go ask him personally. Not going to put anything on here to hurt anyone. So put up or shut up sweet sophie. While you are at it clean your glasses darling. They look a little dirty.

Maybe if you spent some time researching the candidates then you may be able to form a coherent opinion instead of stating your opinion all over the forums and representing them as facts. Just One of Johnson's Messages on his Facebook. To the citizens of Appling County, My name is Terry Johnson and I am running for the office of Sheriff of this county. I would like to point out that I was born and raised in the county, after attending school I made a decision to leave and pursue my dream of becoming a Law enforcement officer in a big city. I ended up in Orlando Florida, where I had a family member who lived there. I then enrolled and was accepted into the police academy where I earned my certification as a law enforcement officer for the state of Florida. I started working for the Apopka police department, then obtained full time employment with the city of Maitland Police Department. I started at Maitland in 1986 as a uniformed patrol officer. I then went to traffic division where I worked traffic crashes & all traffic homicide cases. While I was in this division I received numerous advanced training classes in this area. I then moved over to Community Policing where I spent several years stationed in a middle school where I taught two classes per day. After Community Policing, I was transferred over to the Detective Division where I spent the rest of my career. I received many promotions from this division. I advanced to Lieutenant and put in charge of the Detective Division. My unit handled approximately 400 major cases per year, with a clearance rate of 90%. During my career with Maitland; I was also able to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Criminology, and a Master Degree in Psychology. During my tenure in the detective division my unit received numerous awards & letters from citizens. My unit also worked narcotics cases & had a dedicated detective assigned to do so. I also took a leave in 90-91 to come back to Georgia to work undercover narcotics with the Bacon County Sheriff's office along with Southeast Georgia task force. I was also a part of "Florida Department of Law Enforcement Cold Case Homicide Unit”. This unit would hear cold cases from around the State of Florida. I also develop & implemented the first teen court in a middle school. My unit also charged one of the first cyber computer sex crimes in Orlando, and obtained a conviction. I also have extensive training in SWAT, including hostage rescue, negations and barricaded suspects. If I am elected to this office, I bring twenty five years of experience with me. I have an extensive back ground in investigations, leadership and knowledge that I would bring to this county. One of my first priorities would be drugs, on the streets and in the school system. I would also like to bring the training up to standards with the county along with the city. I would unite the city police department with the sheriff's department to have a united front. I would also set a standard that other departments would strive to achieve. I would also work with the court system to set up a juvenile Pre-Diversion (Civil Citation Program) to be implemented within this county.

That is what, I am afraid of. Your step-father is the brother-in-law of the police chief of Baxley. I don't think one family needs to be controlling the city and the county. A little scary to me there. Where is the democracy in that. But you can always hire sophie. She is a trainer she says. Of what, I don't know. I have no beef with Terry Johnson. Just a little scary to give one family all that control over the city and county.

Johnson is a post certified officer in Georgia and Florida. What the hell do you mean by no merit in qualifications. He has been extensively trained as a Homicide & Traffic Homicide Detective, Instructor/Teacher; not to mention SWAT and he was on the "State of Florida Cold Case Unit". Have you even looked at his postings for training and qualifications or the side by side comparison of all the candidates. You must be a brain surgeon not to be impressed by a man that spent his entire career making himself a better Officer. And now he wants to serve the county he was born and raised in and that his children were raised in from middle school to high school. It is one thing if you just don't like Johnson; for whatever reason; but to say he has no merit or will to win is stupid. You are like damned if you do and damned if you don't. They either have to much experience & training or they don't have enough. As far as the Dixon case is concerned we all think that was a tragedy and sad case. Johnson is a trained psychologist with a Masters Degree and knows if law enforcement had been trained in the latest treatment for PTSD & Flashbacks; the outcome would have been different. He knows the importance of training & sensitivity for just this sort of scenario. There is a training & certification program call "CIT" Crisis Intervention Team for Police Officers that has been implemented in some states with much success. This training course can be implemented for our law enforcement. "CIT" Crisis Intervention Team is a training program that helps certify police to deal with people with mental health issues with an emphasis on returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq that are suffering from PTSD. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, as many as one out of five soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 11, is returning with PTSD. Officers do learn how to reorient the veteran experiencing a flashback, but probably the more useful lesson is simply how to communicate with a veteran exhibiting symptoms of PTSD. It is very important to be patient and allow them time to calm down. Here is the Side by Side Comparison of all the Candidates Training and Education Link Below. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php... These are specialized cases and training programs that are handled differently than a civilian using "suicide by cop" method. If they did have training like that; then Deloach would be bragging about it. It's not a one day class were they sit through and then receive a certificate of attendance. It is a Full Certification Training Program Course with classroom and advanced hands on scenario training. Johnson is the first one to research and come up with a great solution that will directly strengthen our law enforcement officers. Bring confidence back to the people and prevent further tragedies like Dixon. I know for a fact that our cases need to be handle with great care. I am a combat vet from both wars and suffer from Flashbacks/PTSD. We as Vets are no longer receiving critical medication from the VA Medical Centers that prevent flashbacks & panic attacks. The government has let the VA know that they want to discontinue certain medications. We absolutely need our Deputies trained correctly and certified. I was not going to get into this Horse race. But, I am tired of sitting back and watching this go on. The local Sheriff's dept. has their deputies CIT trained. As for anyone saying all veterans support Johnson. That is a lie. I am making sure all these post on the v.a. and the meds get checked out. So if you want to run a fair race on your merits. Go ahead. Don't try to use the death of a fellow marine that had problems to get there. Anyone as military knows this. You don't climb over a dead man to get to the top. We are held to a higher calling.

For all the people who have sincere (not ugly) questions for Mr. Deloach...I hear there is a forum held by the NAACP tonight at 7pm at the progressive resource center...Show up and talk to him. If you are respectful when talking to him, im sure he will be glad to speak with you about your concerns.
