Walmart fires Michigan man for using medical marijuana

Of course they don't mind pot smokers shopping at Walmart.

It took this guy 3 hours to stock out 1 case of soup?

The man has cancer but is working rather than playing the “pity card” and sucking taxpayer tit. I would say “Discrimination“, unless Walmart can show the now “legal” medicine adversely affects his job performance. Then, I believe, they would need to reassign him to an appropriate position. Walmart taking the moral stage? LOL How many Walmart employees are on anti-depressants, other prescription pain relievers, etc…? The outcome of this will determine what money & power can or cannot do.

lol....I thought that taking drugs was a prerequisite for a job at WalMart!!!!! I'd swear 90% of them are on drugs!!!

Marijuana may now be "legal" under state law but it is still illegal under federal law. Wal Mart is not just a state wide company.

This is pathetic. It looks like this guy was a good employee and took his job seriously and now gets fired for taking care of his pain legally.

I'd boycott Walmart if I ever shopped there in the first place. Walmart is an evil enterprise.

Maybe Walmart should pull it's stores from all states that have medical marijuana laws if they are so against them.

We may not see it in our lifetime, but our children and our grandchildren will see the end of criminal persecution for medicinal marijuana, and cases like this man losing his job for it will be labeled as "discrimination" instead of employers rights. I feel sorry for this man.

History someday will reflect on the supidity of today's marijuana laws.

Walmart is established in China also...
They must adhere to state law in which the incident pertains. This will likely set precedence in Michigan, unless this war has (likely so) been waged in other states with the same issues. Then the presiding state judge will either adopt the findings of previous cases or... in order to get recognition, try the whole issue to get his/her name in the books. They just love seeing their name in print. In the end (if this hasn't been already played), the Michigan Supreme Court will weigh and if enough controversy still exists, Federal judges will docket (Eastern district?) and make the final determination. A lot of taxpayer $$$ is going to be sank into this one... unless Walmart concedes (not likely).

Tomorrow this is gonna really piss me.., huh?

Hey, why don't they test for caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and pain pills and fire for a positive on any of them? Even if the caffeine is in a medication, the nicotine is in a patch, the alcohol is on doctor's orders for a kidney problem, or the pain pills are legally prescribed. Lets put being PC above being reasonable and compassionate.

No they're not. There is no federal law that says if you test dirty for weed you lose your job. They are using their own discretion, which is wrong IMO.

If they choose not to acknowledge the laws the people in that state have adopted, for moral or other reasons, then I say follow your convictions and pull your stores. Of course that would cost billions so they are not going to do that. Instead they'll just tell us our laws mean nothing to them and they'll fire cancer patients.

I went to the largest Walmart store ever. It was near Sao Paulo, Brasil. My wife came to the U.S. and went to Walmart to buy her friends American dolls and things. She said everything was "made in china"!
Another big American company selling out our country.

Disability/labor laws hold a bit of water, more so now than ever. There are a lot of “working disabled” in this country.

In my previous post, I forgot the “most likely” scenario:

Walmart attorneys have their private investigators do a thorough “claim value” investigation. This to determine the mans’ financial status (how hard up for money), life expectancy, etc…, appropriate a settlement, cut the guy a check for say…$500k and call it a day.
