Listen Brian,
I am not a drunk, I have not ever driven drunk or had any other tickets. You didn't even read. I am not a man, and I didn't and don't live in a trailer. Unless you are talking about someone else, I received your post in my email as an update to my post for this Topic. Why so rude? Not only drunks that live in trailers have been jailed for these fees. People who have received tickets for small things who have paid them and then later found out their license was suspended for not paying the fees when they knew nothing about them. Before you start being rude to people, do your research. |

Same thing happened to me - you CANNOT appeal it - not allowed!!!!!!! Just sent them your paychecks and tax returns (kidding)- but they will get all possible assets - even putting a lien on your home - HAPPENED TO ME! |

@ debbie--
What makes you think I was talking to you? I don't even see another post on here with your name on it. My comments weren't directed at any one person... I quoted one person just to show how stupid the argument was. But you missed my point, which is that these fees are for people who drive drunk, drive without insurance, or drive with an expired license, or for reckless driving. These are all serious offenses that endanger OTHER PEOPLE. These fees don't apply to minor offenses unless you have over 7 points on your driving record, and even then they start at only $100. http://www.michigan.gov/driverresponsibility/... I got a simple speeding ticket last year and I didn't get a fine. You know why? Because I wasn't drunk, I had insurance, a valid driver's license, I wasn't being reckless, and I'm not a shitty driver with 7+ points on my record. If you got a fee, you deserved it, and probably deserve a lot more. So, debbie... maybe YOU should do some research. Like, maybe reading the actual law. |

Brian, I had a perfect driving record. My proof of insurance was at home because my x- husband needed it for something. I told the officer that, met him at the police station, paid the ticket, no problem. Divorced my husband, moved, and two years later ended up with this nightmare. During the two year period I was even able to renew my license with no problem. I never new about responsibility fees or that they even existed. I am not a drunk and am very careful about doing things right. You not only wrote that post to me, but to everyone who has had this problem. IT could happen too YOU. But from what you are saying is that you are perfect, so whay am I waisting my time. Like I said. The research I have done finds a whole lot of INNOCENT people out there. The majority of people in Mi. want this to stop. Please do a little more research before posting again. You don't know until you have been there.

Assessed $200 per year for two years (as of May 1, 2004)*
* No Proof of Insurance (3100) * No Insurance (3106) You were not innocent. You didn't have your proof of insurance. It doesn't matter why you didn't have it. The law says you need it at all times while driving, and you didn't have it. End of story. And I HAVE done the research--obviously you haven't or you wouldn't be saying you're innocent. They don't just hit people with these fees for no reason, the reasons are very clearly and specifically laid out. GO READ THE LAW. And the "I didn't know I owed this money" excuse is one of the oldest in the book. If you honestly think that you did nothing at all wrong by driving without proof of insurance(what could your husband possibly need it for? And what insurance company only gives one proof?) then I guess you're ignoring facts and there's nothing I can say. If you do acknowledge that you did something wrong, then I don't understand what your argument is. Not knowing about a fine doesn't excuse you from paying it. And really... is $200 a year for two years really bankrupting you? Come on. |

The drivers responsibility fee is not legal. We have spoke several lawyers regarding the law. The problem is the law consists of double dipping. Charging fee's for the same offense, by two different government entity's. We are working to repeal this law. Lets help do that, and get the word out.

Brian, do you realize how ignorant and pompous you sound; is it deliberate? I'm a professional with a graduate degree and I think everyone here agrees that there should be laws and punishments for breaking them. I had two glasses of wine in an hour, got pulled over and was charged with driving while impaired. I’ve never had a ticket, or any trouble with the law. I was horribly embarrassed, accepted my responsibility, paid attorney fee’s, the court fees, the victim’s fee’s, the class fees, and the higher insurance cost. However, this law is illegal that someone should be punished twice for the same offense. Is there something about that you don't understand? There is a reason that Michigan has the most unlicensed and uninsured drivers in the union. Now you should do a little more research on the subject before spouting off. At least then you would sound a little more educated on the subject and not so obtuse. |

That is why I don't have a bank account, and I don't live in MI...... HA |

I love the people who say" YOU BROKE THE LAW YOU DESERVE TO DIE !!!!!!!!!!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA What an idiot. It is a right not a privalige to be on these roads. Look stupid I have a right to get food a right to clothe myself. A right to work. So if you think it's a privalige move to red china where it truly is a privalige. Idiot. And I'll drive there drunk just to piss you off MADD bitch.
