Last time I was at Hessel it was 8 in the morning, Hank Williams "Your Cheatin Heart" was playing on the P.A. system, 2 locals with hangovers were sitting at a table with coffee and the waitress was doubling as the cashier and, oh yeah, the security guard at the door was also the slot attendant...what a scene. It was like something out of an old B movie.

I'm sure the tribes would like to thank all those who donate to their cause just like the state thanks those who donate. The tribes probably appreciate all the free advertising they are getting from the media, which is very nice of the media to do forthem.

We (my lovely wife of 45 years and I) consider casino gambling entertainment and as such we budget for it the same way anyone else might budget to go out for dinner, drinks and a movie. We really don't care if they are owned by Indians, greeks, Las Vegas mega corporations or the mob. It's how we enjoy ourselves and when we win, we consider it a bonus.

I see the dim bulbs are at it again. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he, she or they had a life.

That's exactly how we feel about it too. We rent a cottage on Lk. Huron, enjoy the sun, boats, and have budgeted for the casinos. I would rather go there than sit in a fancy restaurant for 2 hours! Just might go back up in the fall.

Las Vegas has been sleeping at the helm. They kept on building ignoring the blatant fact that competition has arrived. Why FLY to Las Vegas when one can spend the money closer to home.Indian Casinos and such are sprouting up all over America to serve the need to lose money to Casinos.I say that the money needs to stay local, take care of your own. When gamblers stay local here in The San Francisco Bay,there is a chance they are employing locals. Then there are gamblers who would rather give the money to the reservations in the foothills and Lake County. My mom used to go to Vegas, now she goes to Harrahs near San Diego on the reservation.Michigan will do wise to allow gambling also, because people who gamble do it no matter what happens. They will gamble on line.I personally quit gambling shortly after the casinos eliminated the single deck boot on the blackjack table. They would accuse me of counting, then comp a room for a couple nights, then ask me not use the single deck boots and point out all the other tables. The good old days before facial recognition and loss reduction rules.I am getting old I guess,I do miss the RUSH and then going to the sport book and giving some back anyway.I do not bet on the Ponies much anymore,I used to go to the track, and with OTB I can go now.I seemed to get it.They do not get wealthy giving money away and when one does figure an angle they will shut you down politely, and always comp you a room. The damn technology and computers,I love them and I hate them.My father rest his soul was the one who taught me to count cards on a single deck boot,he was also banned.WE loved Fitzgeralds in RENO.That place is in the History books,a new building and extension of the New Mall is in the works.I still remember old RENO.When Vegas was just starting to get big and the Indian Reservations were lobbying to change the law.I can remember when we had some new tables to visit when the reservations did open,it did not take long to kick me off, they were VERY POLITE and somwhat flattered and so was I.I found out then that we were on a data base.OH JOY!! GOD BLESS ALL

HAVING BEEN BORN AND RAISED IN NEW BUFFALO MICHIGAN AND A VISIT THERE LAST SUMMER WITH MY GRANDSON, I WAS SO DISSAPPOINTED IN THE TOWN. AND EVEN MORESO TODAY WHEN I HEAR WHATS TAKING PLACE AND SUGGESTIONS FROM THE ELECTED OFFICERS OF THE TOWN COUNCIL. I TRIED TO TAKE MY GRANDSON FO THE BEACH TO SHOW HIM HOW BEAUTIFUL THE BEACH AREA WAS WITH THE WHISTLING SAND AND THE BEAUTIFUL SANDHILLS. WHAT A SURPRISE. NOT MUCH OF A BEACH AND NOT ANY SANDHILLS LEFT. THEY HAD ALL BEEN LEVELED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CONDO'S, PLUS I HAD TO SNEAK HIM AROUND TO FIND A PLACE WHERE WE COULD SEE THE BEACH AND LAKE MICHIGAN. WHAT A DISAPPOINTED GRANDDAD I WAS. NOW THE BIG THING IS TO TRY TO GET PEOPLE FROM CHICAGO TO VACATION IN THE AREA. WITH THE RENTAL PRICES I FOUND, YOU CAN FORGET THAT. THE LAKE AND DIFFICULTY TO GET TOO IT AND THE LACK OF DECENT SHOPPING, I WILL SAY ITS TO EXPENSIVE. THE LACK OF RESTARANTS AND TAVERNS DOESN'T LEND IT SELF FOR VACATIONING.
