"Despite those cuts, the mayor has kept his own take-home car."

Good point. Shouldn't this "man of the people" get his own ride to work?

I am sure the cops with take home cars have them bevcause they are on call as homicide detectives, SWAT, etc

Since when does the mayor get called in to work at 3 am

If you need to get to work call the POLICE or a TAXIE. If you don't live in Buffalo work in the city you live in. I will not pay for your gas.

I can't stand Unions. This is absurd. Also, can someone please explain to me why the Mayor needs a driver and a car? I see he is electing to keep the car. I don't know if that means he keeps a driver as well. Chris Collins manages to drive his own personal vehicle and he seems to get himself to work every day just fine. And, he lives in Clarence, so he is commuting as well to get downtown. And how about the many thousands of other people who live in the suburbs and work downtown? They also manage it. If it's too expensive to commute, move or change jobs, like anyone else would need to contemplate doing if the hardship was so severe.

Actually there are very few cops on call. Only the Evidence Detective, 2 PSD Lieutenants, and a Photograper on the weekends are on call. Units such as Homicide and the Sex Offense Squad are all on various methods of voluntary service based for the most part on seniority. They are not required to come in if called. The same can be said for SWAT, HMT, and URT.

Why does he need a car to take home? If there's an "emergency", he can get a ride from the police car that sits outside his house all night long. Why doesn't anyone bring that up? Oh that's right he needs the car so his son can "borrow" it.

It's hard to believe that the mayor has a car AND driver in a city that is under "adult supervision." Chris Collins has shown his integrity by driving his own car. Why do the politicians here think that they are so privileged that they need cars and drivers? IT's THEIR JOB - no perks necessary!(Yes, I'm from out of state - where the elected local politicians are paid for their part-time job and drive their own cars!)

It is all about Brown and his huge ego
He wants to act like the mayor of the Big Apple
Buffalo is a city of less than 300,000 people now. He is a small twon clown and he needs to drive his own car...Give him a Chevy

Don't give him anything. Let him buy his own ride and then drive it himelf. Why should he have a chauffeur that makes $75,000.00 a year. This is no big time city just the hulk of what used to be.

Actually this chauffeur made over $90K last year as a Police Officer.

Since then he has been promoted to Police Lieutenant and should make at least $105K this year.

Mayor Urkel has proven himself to be a 1-term mayor for sure. If he truly cared about the city he would drive his butt into work each day, or better yet take the effin train! He lives right by it ferchrissakes!

Who is going to rub the gum off of the mayor's butt, if he takes the train? Those are some expensive as* suits this poor city's leader certainly wears!

Also, to walk a few feet to take the train, would allow sonny to steal the family car for 8 hrs!
Also...what work does he do after 5:00PM? Discussing the problems in his own neighborhood is just a stones walk away....butt he drives anyway! Black churches should be sermoning about this, until it is corrected! His benefits are financed from their employment and property taxes!

I think all the union is saying is how can you justify taking away cars from the "on call" people that get called in nearly every night of the week and respond directly to emergencies while 30 other people who never get called to ANYTHING keep theirs. Their is a difference between "Perk" and "Need".
The "on call people" would amount to about 10 cars total. Please Mr Mayor "JUSTIFY" these other 30 cars.......including yours

I think what the mayor did by taking away the take home cars is a righteous thing and should also go for a lot others. This county can no longer afford this type of patronage or any of the other patronage that goes on. Enough is enough and there is much more to go. Keep on doing the right thing

These people have cars of their own - have them reimbursed for mileage and use their own vehicles. This is a ridiculous policy. The mayor needs to get rid of his city vehicle as well - he sets a poor example. If he can't think and drive at the same time then you people need a new mayor.

The mayor does not need a vehicle to get from his house to work and back again. I have seen the mayor's schedule and agree with him having a car and driver to get him to all the events he shows up at while at work. If he had to park and walk like the rest of us then he would have to cut 50% of his workload.

The police work out of a police station and can pick up their company cars there. We could also tie the take-home car privilege to reducing the crime rate in Buffalo; that would ensure that nobody ever gets one.
