Bullying in Schools

Lee Miller is either completely incompetent when it comes to bullying in Marianna schools or he is complicit in covering it all up. Honestly, I cannot decide which it is.

Remember you are talking about Lee Miller.He could not find his way to work if he did not have mapquest on his phone.

By far the worst we have had and thats a impressive list

I hear from some that he is not running again for superintendent. Still, from others, I hear he is running again. Does anyone know for sure?

If it makes you feel any better, Chipley has even less competence in handling it. It seems no one has read the Florida Statutes as the first thing suggested is to call the bully and the bullied into the office to "talk." That, school officials, is one thing that the statutes say will never happen. Someone, anyone, needs to read the policy and implement it.

You are right. Her name should not be used on here. The subject is bullying, and if she were being bullied, it makes this so much more tragic. I think our school may have let her down. Lee Miller - time to wake up!!!!!!!!

This is a crop of crap! Get a life people, this is a learning experience. And although it is painful and wrong in some instances it has been part of the human experience since the first animals formed into groups. If you are going to protect your young from it then get them out of society, I don't know where you're going put them though, bullying is a natural means for the pack to pick a leader and to cause individuals to form alliances, and no amount of laws are going to change it! You are trying to use the system to bully the so called bully into submission to your will. So take this oversensitive, crybaby sh-t off of here and move on with something that can be of use or entertain.

its time to quit hiding things.....when someone has taken her life...........Cody Jacob dumped her last week for a nasty chick named Michelle Simmons.........and Michelle and her buddies have been bullying the crap out of Bells..........time for this crap to stop...............and COdy and Michelle had nerve to go to her beautiful funeral today..............tried to be slick walking in a few min after each other..............michelle looked her normal skank self dressed like a hook.............lets learn a lesson from this.............before it happens again

I might agree with a little of this caveman logic; however, bullying is completely different now with the internet. All of her friends and peers could see it happening to her and she was helpless. I guess she should have gotten a gun and shot the ones bullying her, then she could have been a hero and led a group of cavewomen.

Let me guess, you must have been one of those kids in school who either bullied the other kids or sat back and watched the weaker students get bullied, huh. Who knows? You may have actually been bullied yourself, and nothing was done about it. Bullying has changed a lot in the past few years, especially with texting, sexting, My Space, and Facebook. I don't remember anyone committing suicide because they were bullied when I was in school, nor do I remember bully victims shooting up their classmates because of the bullying - catastrophic recent results from bullying.

Your comparison of humans to animals regarding the pact mentality is correct. However, unlike animals, we have or supposed to have wisdom gained from knowledge or religion or both. Just because bully behavior has been a part of life since the beginning of time doesn't make it right. Murder happened between the brothers Cain and Abel and has been going on since then, and it still doesn't make it right, now does it.

By the way, kids aren't the only ones who are bullied in the world. Adults get bullied, too. Didn't Jesus say that if you want to show that you love him then love each other? Didn't he also say that those of us who hate and have enemies cannot and do not know him?

There is no wisdom and no love in any act of bullying and/or sitting on the sidelines watching it happen without doing anything about it. Those who witness bullying in silence, condone it, and are therefore as guilty as those who bully.

It's this simple you can blame any one or group you so desire, and make laws and rule until Hell freezes over but kids(some cases adults too) do thing you don't like or are just WRONG, but bullying like murder,stealing and violent crimes keep on happening. Blame the internet and all the other media you want, it is still the parents and guardians responsibility to monitor the kids access to these outside influences. Most now a- days don't care enough or are not strong enough as parents to say"NO!" And stop the BS if someone commits suicide they are the one responsible and to blame circumstances and outside influences is only a transference of guilt for not being there or capable of controlling that persons action.
Like I said before make Bullying a topic of it's own and suicide a topic of it's own but stay on topic.

You are correct. We can make laws all we want to, but those laws will not do any good. It is the responsibility of parents to teach kids right from wrong. Call me a fool if you like, but why can't we all just get along and make each other feel better about life?

Do you live in a vacuum? Have you missed the increase of violence toward self and others brought on by bullying? Have you not heard of teens responding to bullying by taking their own or others' lives. Does Columbine ring a bell you? You are very poorly informed.
As far as the schools go, they do have a responsibility to act on all reports of bullying. It is the law. The candidates who run for school board and superintendant, who have the guts to speak up about this issue, will have my ear and likely my vote. I hope you do not have kids in the system because they are probably as callus as you are.

The same people or parents wanting the school to protect their kids are the same ones that when their kids need discipline or correction for abnormal behavior scream and bitch and cry, because their kids do no wrong!the teacher or someone has it in for them, or some other excuse. And are completely against the discipline that was standard when this level of bullying unheard of. So you have taken away the tools to deal with problemed children, but you want them stopped or corrected, as long as it's not your child. Look you can't have it both ways. But all this is BS cause it has gone to far anyway, the school system has no chance of correcting these acts, the Police can't even do anything with them. And the parents don't care, have the time or are scared of the kids. So with the system like it is what are You going to do? And save your dribble any one that is involved or is honest about this situation will confirm my statement, so I'm tired of the same old finger pointing game and name calling, you can argue with someone else.

I have to wonder if you have ever taught. I see kids who come from horrible environments and their only way to cope is to "let off steam" on others. It is sad, but they are so angry they want to hurt others. They have non-parents - maybe a drug-addicted aunt or sibling half-way raising them. So, how does one rely on the parents in these cases? The school does have to step in and protect the victims of these students. I feel very protective of my students, and I would not allow bullying in my classroom. It is my responsibility then. Some of these kids will go on to criminal activity when they get older. Very sad. The girl who committed suicide may be responsible for her actions, but she was also a victim.
