Shame on those Legislature people who closed OSB. I am a former student and I am blind and I know exactly how it feels to be rejected by public school simply because the teachers do not have the proper training or resources. OSB taught me how to survive, which is very vital to the blind's independance and coping skills in a demanding, sighted world. This whole mess is not about the blind children's education so much as it is about greed and land. It has been that way since I had attended OSB. These children are sadly caught in the middle. There parents having to decide what to do. "Send the child to the Deaf School and risk it not being safely set up for the blind, or send the child back to the local school that lacks traning, special equipment, itenerate teachers etc." By the way, older students were currently attending OSB and learning life skills. Where will their itenerate teachers be once they enter their local schools? Most people are unaware that after children reach the age of Junior and High Schools they are not eligible for an itenerate teacher. OSB is set up where the chiodren have constant stimuation through braille, media, therapy and management skills. And they have many other programs. A lot of the former students who attended OSB take a lot of pride in OSB and the history of it. It would not seem right to take away what us former students charish so much and have contributed our part in its history.
