I am planning on moving to florida or south carolina, and was wondering if Lakeland is a nice place to live? I will be working at R&L carriers and need to be within 30 minutes driving distance/time of there. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Lakeland can be a great place to live.... or a bad place to live. Really depends on you. Yarborough Ln in Lakeland is a quiet area with little trouble and crime although not all of Lakeland is like that.

If you can afford the property taxes, home owners insurance increases every year and power bill it can be great.

I lived in North Lakeland for 28yrs although I have many friends and memories from Lakeland, the best thing I ever did was move my family out of there.. You might take my statement as "Vile" but it's the truth ALL of Lakeland has turned into the hood!! Just look around

I'll have to disagree with George. I've lived in Lakeland for 7 years now (13 years in Tampa) and though it does have it's rough spots, it is nowhere near 'the hood'. I grew up in Philadelphia. Now that's the hood! Lakeland isn't even close.

I never lived there but I grew up visiting a relative that lived in the next town over and we would go into Lakeland sometimes. Pretty trashy looking, overall. There may be a few nice little streets, but, even if you lived there, who wants to drive around a place that looks like crap? If you like for things around you to look nice and neat and upscale; no. If you are okay with things looking somewhat disorganized and disheveled; you'll do fine. That may sound snobby but it's the honest truth. Usually when people ask these types of questions, they are looking for some real truth so there it is.

Yep. Sure, did. That is all you have to do if you are basing a liking to something cosmetically. Like I said before, if looking organized and pretty is a concern...probably wouldn't want to go there. If it's not....you might be okay. Don't shoot the messenger. It is what it is.

I wouldn't recomend Lakeland to anyone. I grew up in that toilet. It is a bad place to raise children, the Polk co school system is and has always been a joke nation wide and the drug issues know no boundaries there. So as long as your ok with high crime rate, drugs, stepping over homeless people, hookers and trailor trash rednecks. Then hey Lakeland is the place for you.

Lakeland is a nice centralized place located btw Orlando and Tampa, life is what you make it here... I hear people all the time saying there moving out of Polk county even some of my family has re located but I'm fine ... You are who you hang around with so pick your friends wisely and you will be fine!

If you can stand the smoke and burning of stuff all the time it's OK. Just make sure you have a oxygen tank and mask with you.

I don't understand the comments where people are judging that they are nuts, or clueless or wrong. Everything that has been said here, is corret. There may be a few neighborhoods that aren't crime-ridden, but the fact is, it's an older styled town. Nothing there is newer looking....unless there has been a complete renovation in the last 7 or 8 years. I grew up going there one a year every year. I have family there and they aren't really any big success stories coming out of there. It's natural to be defensive of where you live, but I can't believe that anyone could say with a strait face that it's a "great plae to live." Don't lie....
