I understand that this is a drastically different religion than Christianity, but wasn't religious tolerance part of this country from the beginning? Wasn't the Church of England's attitude one of the reasons the Quakers and Puritans sought to create a safe haven here? What a shame that we have lost that spirit of tolerance.

I guess the PR didn't agree with the letter either, they printed it after the fact?

"The Hindu religion worships many gods, not the God of the Bible, and a festival such as this is a clever way to introduce and get you hooked into believing that worshipping many gods is the way to live."

Talk about ignorance and intolerance.

Last I checked christianity worships more then one god. Devil and angels.

Sorry but if your faith is so weak that you are in danger of getting 'hooked' by a festival you have a big problem with YOUR religion.

True Christianity worships one God, the God who sent His son to die on the cross for your sins and mine if we accept His free gift. Your statement of many gods is false. Christians do NOT worship satan nor angels.

Interesting. So you do not believe in Heaven and hell??? Temptation of evil(devil). And what was that 'host' that announced the birth of christ???

We will not go into the 'father, son and holy ghost' part.

I believe in a "heaven" and "hell". I believe in evil and the devil (Satan). I believe in angels. I also believe in a triune God of one being (Trinity).

Cabin, you are either ignorant of Christianity or just trying to stir sh**.

However, I do agree with the 2nd part of your post: "...if your faith is so weak that you are in danger of getting 'hooked' by a festival you have a big problem with YOUR religion."

Like Bayview said, you are ignorant of Christianity. Or perhaps you are just plain ignorant?

Christians believe in the devil and angels and saints but we do not view them as deities nor do we worship them. We worship the one true triune God, plain and simple, and no matter how much you rant and try to twist and spin it to you liking, that's just the plain truth.

Sounds like you got an ax to grind with Christianity. Get a life!

I certainly believe in a literal heaven and hell. I do believe in angels...the scri;tures tell me of all...I believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant Word of God. What you said though was that Christians worship them....no such thing for a real Christian. We worship only one God..the God of Abraham, the God of Issac, the God of Jacob and the God of my own salvation.
Re: the trinity. It is one God in three personhoods. Something I or any human cannot fully understand but I believe it because the inerrant Word of God, the Bible tells me so.

You're not a super-literal interpretation only person, are you? Or one of those who believes only the King James version is the true word of God? Cuz, yike.

You say you believe in many deities. THAT is plain and simple. How you wish to define 'worship' is a matter between you and your assorted deities.

My 'axe' is with a politheistic religion objecting to another polytheistic religion. After all that is what the letter writer was going on about.

Our religious tolerance was for a reason, the signers of the Constitution felt that everyone should be able to worship in any religion and that Christianity would when held up against any of the others, including catholics :-))) sell itself.
The main religions here both before and after the revolution were catholic, protestant and MUSLIM with jewish about equal to the muslims, yup, muslim HERE in the early 1700's.

I believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant Word of God...call me what you will. Although I believe there are many fine translations I do use a Scofield King James version. I prefer the old English. I prefer the study of root word in Greek and Hebrew, which by the way, is extremely interesting. My husband on the other hand uses another translation which is fine. Don't know if that answers your question or not. I do not know what you mean by "super literal". Do not think there can be literal, super literal etc. Literal is literal.

I do think Cabin has no clue as to what is in Scripture with what he has been posting. Always helps to read something before trying to get in a discussion about the subject whether it is Spiritual or history, art or opera.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Sagittarius

If you have any worries or problems today, a close colleague could have the answers you seek. Work will be satisfying, and anything to do with children should be very rewarding today. There could be friction with a relative, but it's nothing serious and things will sort themselves out in due course. Again, you must pay attention to your health, Saggitarius: skin infections are a strong possibility at the moment.
