I can't believe these folks want to tax us for turf and track. They should do the legwork of collecting more money not tack it on to our tax bills.
If the grassroots group wants turf so badly, work for it. The taxpayers don't have an open wallet for whims that aren't needed right now.

The hell with that, take a page from the highlanders and just use a field, as for running, if they want runners let em be cross country runners.

Nice idea but no more taxes. SASD taxes go up every year and have doubled since I moved here 15 years ago. Enough is enough!

If it's runners they want, they should be careful what they wish for...All the taxpayers will be running from this insane school boards fantasies.

Years ago communities and businesses would come together to raise funds, like the stadium in East Stroudsburg, but since there is no companies anymore or industry, taxes are constantly raised to run the schools. I wonder what would happen if the Casino would come up with a check for A million, oh what was I thinking, probably bounce.

Have you heard California will be taking 10% off the top of all paychecks now as they do not have any money? Now that is cause for rebellion! Have to make sure of it as I heard it this morning. Must go back to FOX and find out the details.
What happened to Swarzi...he started out good but seems to have become a cry baby liberal dem now. Family influence do you think???

Cabin, pro sports have gone to real grass, most of the new stadiums are grass. I have heard the biggest concern is heat with turf. The temperature on turf is much higher than grass. Turf absorbs and retains heat. The fields must be watered down often to keep heat down. I say often, because it rises quickly after a waterdown. Heat stroke has happened as well as burns from the turf itself.

So we are being asked to increase the risk of injury to our school students.

WHY??????????

I heard it too on FOX (O'Reilly) the other night but can't find it on the FOX site now. Here it is from the LA Times:

Great question Cabin! Go to the meeting and ask. The only reason I can think of is because they want the best and they want it now, at any cost. The renovation shouldn't cause disruption of the fields, people are getting paid big bucks to manage this project. If any disruption does occur, it should be minimal. That is an excuse the group is using, because it worked for East Stroudsburg when they got their turf & track.

I could see gates around the new fantasy sports complex to protect it from use in the off hours. As has happened at other schools, closed to the public and community that pays for it.

No big surprise, when I was at Lucent the CEO bought a country club in north jersey, 18 hole golf course, pools, clubhouse, etc in Morris county, used corporate money, justified as a morale booster, catch was you had to be D level or above manager to use it. Lucent stock nosedived to $17 a share in 2 days.

The foolishness of the whole idea of the elite crowd thinking our wallets are an open book to fund their dreams.
I laughed at a recent letter to the editor where a former Stroudsburg graduate points out the coaching staff needs to be replaced. It's true, Stroudsburg football hasn't done well for years. The magic turf will not solve the coaching or bring our team to the championship.

I can see the rubberized track may be needed more than the turf, but now isn't the time.

I believe Tom is the same person who got this type of field for ESU.

One thing about Turf that people don't realize is the problem with body fluids and other fun things kids can pick up from turf that isn't clean. Turf retains all the blood, spit and sweat and the kids can get fun problems like staph infection and other wonderful things if the field is not cleaned off.

You're right, the turf will need to be cleaned at least twice a month with an anti-microbial cleaner.

Correct Cabin. The difference is ESU is a university that has money to cover the cost. I don't see why high schools need the best with public money.

Self interest from most of this grassroots group is overwhelming.
