Were having a collection drive comming up right shortly and I was promised that the next batch to go out will go to this whole unit.
Thank you. I only get to talk to him every 5 - 7 days so hopefully the next time he calls he can give me his new addy. I will send it to your e-mail. Don't want him getting crazy letters and stuff from people he doesn't even know, and you never know who is looking at these sites.

Family, friends and co-workers ask about him all the time and send him things, but yes, Shelly, it is the kindness of stangers and people we barely know that really touches my heart. I know not everyone supports the war, but everyone should support our soldiers. Unless u have been in that situation, it is difficult to understand ust what these men and women are sacrificing for our country. Okay. a little off topic, but thank you to everyone who has listened to me and showed support!

You said it best. Not everyone does support the war but the soldiers dont have a choice and do what they do because they are dedicated to our country. My brother was in the Navy for 20 years and retierd at 39. He spent alot of time on air craft carriers. I can remember way back in the early 80's a situation where we shot down a Libian fighter jet.The fighter piolets that did so were from the ship my brother was on. They immediatly sent battles ships to protect the air craft carrier. seeing that on the news the morning it happened made our family very nervous and my mom hardley slept for days until she heard from him. I cant imagine what you go through every day seeing this stuff on the news and the papers. Not knowing if hes safe or what. You should also be commended. Like you said no one knows until they have someone in harms way what its like not to mention you must miss him horribly. I always get a little teary eyed whenever i see these guys come back and get reunited with thier familys. My prayers to you and your husband.

I am very thankful that your son made it home safely. My husband has lost several fellow soldiers in the past few months and that is tough. Ane even though my husband is 30, he was still a big kid, but now when I talk 2 him on the phone, I can tell he has changed some also. The things they see force them to mature some, whether they want to or not. God bless your son and his family. Enjoy every precious second you get to spend with them.

After waking up and find the love of my life blue in the face and dead from oxycodone overdose I know first hand the pain and desctruction this awful drug leaves behind. It should be taken off the market period. This drug left a beautiful loving family to grief for the rest of their lifes.
There are so many alternatives , ban oxycotin and save lives, please .
I had not idea he was even on the drug and waking up to find him gone is a pain so deep in the pit of my heart and soul I will miss him forever.

Mike who posted March 15
I saw on your posting that you refer to coming home and finding someone blue due to oxycotin, may I ask did you have that personal experience ?
I would love to share my story with you if you want to hear it , I agree , ban oxycotin , anyone who says well it is the persons fault who took it if they died , obviously does not understand addiction , lord knows I was in the dark until this horror of a nightmare became my life .
Oxy kills. Period.

I see both sides of the coin. Too bad there isn't some way to reverse addiction. Oxis are very effective for pain and feeling good in general. But I don't think people should have to suffer needlessly because others abuse the medication.

Dawn,
Please accept my condolences on your loss. Oxcy is a very controlling substance. While it does help those who suffer with chronic pain, it also creates pain in alot of lifes and that pain goes past the user. I watched this program on TV just last night about this young man addicted to oxcy. You read on here the ways it gets used ie: snort, smoke, inject but its one thing to read about it and another to actually see it. So I can only imagine what that must have been like for you to have such an experience first hand. It freaked me out to see his guy keep stabbing himself with a needle time after time looking for a vien. He was frantic in his actions. I am very sorry to see these kinds of stories and comments made by people that lose loved ones in this maner. God Bless you and remember that there are people here who care. My prayers go out to you.

Shelly - thanks for your kind words and thoughts I appreciate it . I think it is something that sometimes unless it effects an individual directly, one may not know the pain one drug can do .
There are so many other forms of safer medications for people in severe pain and it saddens me to see stories everyday about a pharmacy that was robbed or someone passing away. It really is an epidemic and I only pray that it will be at least re-classified and or it becomes harder to get, too many innocent people are being effected from someone like me, to the innocent pharmacist working down the street having to worry about getting held up , it just is not right .
Again , thanks for your kind prayers.
The person for whom I lost , is the most sweetest,
sincere, loving person one could hope to be lucky enough to met, and for that I am grateful for.
I think oxy should be banned !!
Help save lives:-)

Yeah, what todays youth must think!! You would never hear of pharmacys getting robbed or stealing grandmas pills back when I was growing up. It was all about marijuana being the devils brew and when the cocaine outbreak hit in the early 80's it was like damn, whats going on out there in the world? Now, instead of the brain on drugs with the fried eggs commercial, you see commercials about prescription drug abuse being an epidemic. I guess I am just getting old. New days ,new times, new drugs. You just hear soo much in the news, almost daily, about how someone od'd on opiates or xanax, methadone, combinations of all of it. Scarry. Like anything, responsibilty is the key. I used to think that because it is prescribed that it must be okay too. But there are a lot of good things it does do for those who would otherwise have no means to function. Its a double edged sword.

Please email me and let me be there for you , I care and so does everyone on the board. Your life is WORTH IT!!! And by the fact that you state oxycotin is ruining your life is a HUGE step , by talking about this problem, you cut it in half and let other
people carry some of the problem for you because that is what friends are for. PLEASE realize your life is NOT OVER and YOU CAN HAVE YOUR LIFE BACK .
Even if you do not email me please let us know on the board how you are doing, I have only been on this board a short time and I can tell you, the support from these GREAT people on the board is amazing, these great people really will go the extra mile for you and help, let us do that for you ok ?

it's unfortunate these two men were careless with a med that receives so much bad press. stupidity is one of nature's methods of population control.

I feel badly for these two lost souls.

I don't think that people want to ban pain relievers, just the "easy to get addicted to" ones. MS contin is almost the same drug, but as far as I have been told it is harder to get addicted. There are other drugs that are effective without all of the near-instant addiction.

Does anyone know how they got the drug? I would bet that it was in a medicine cabinet at home. I hope that anyone else out there that has this drug keeps it in a locked, safe place.

Cannot beleive my eyes while reading this, ok first of all, you're husband isnt fucking fighting for my freedom, i live in canada and honestly i think hes prolly doing more harm than good especially if hes in Iraq. But ill drop that topic because the truth is its just my opinion and what ive read from headlines, media, etc... ok so lets be honest here, lets not incorperate headlines nor opinions. I am currently going through detox of oxy contin and am contemplating comitting suicide every few seconds. It is clear that some people need it to live, but are they going to die because of not taking it? no. can they die of taking it? yes. Is risking the rest of your life worth escaping that pain by taking the first pill? ask any oxycotin user or previous user if they had that choice again what would they do and their feelings on that. The problem with oxy being as powerfull as heroin and addictve, is that it is mistakenly taken as a "medical painkiller" and not as a drug off the streets. Even individuals who I've spoken to, many many addicts, also have the same view because even if you're getting them off the street you know its 100% clean, prescribed and gotten from doctors / pharmacies / patients / and is legal and not considered "a bad thing" because people know its to cure pain for the ill.

If your husband became an oxy abuser after sustaining a severe but healable injury. What would you do if you didn't find out for awhile? he got really hooked n maybe commit suicide or od'd before you even had a chance to get help, or even if he got help but just couldnt do it.

to hear something of this matter, from someone like you who has absolutely no idea of what it does and everything about it, blew my mind.

I know for a fact you're just grumpy cuz you miss ur hubby, you are not helping people with chronic pain by saying any of this, you are showing absolutely no respect for a serious epidemic that is currently (hopefully ) peeking at its worst.

I hope you don't think you're smart by thinking the oposite of the headlines, i mean really, if that gave u the urge and mindset to write something like this in the first place, then on what do you base your opinion?

Good luck, I went cold turkey almost 3 weeks ago. I felt like killing myself too, but trust me there is a light at the end of the tunnal, so don't do it. I feel great now, I can't remember ever feeling this good.
