I use to love garage sales - and finding bargains- not anymore.
I have been to a few this year and all I find is "junk" nothing worth spending the $ on these days. I could go to a store- Macy's, Pennys, Sears- on sale days and totally find the bargains - brand new stuff for between $5 and $10. I go when the sales are happening - 75% off retail price and the things I buy and the money I save - and the new stuff I get-- now that is sailing!!

If you take all your money, buy junk, them fill up your garage with junk, you have no choice but to sell the junk for 5 cent on a dollar you paid for it to try and get some of your money back in hard times. But that don,t mean you are smart. It means you like to store junk and spend money on junk.

I haven't had a garage sale since I was a kid in Streamwood living with my parents. We donate our old stuff (and get tax refunds for it). Way better use of my time... My weekends (especially early in the morning) were not meant for sitting around haggling over whether or not a dusty nick nack or outdated sweater should be 30 cents or 25 cents.

C'mon now, flea markets, ebay, craigslist, etc...they're the way to go if you want to buy or sell old stuff instead of donating it. Making $50 by sitting in front of your house for 8 hours hardly seems worth it to me. Although, it does give the seller plenty of time to contemplate the slumping home sales.
