my names danyelle and my fiance,a local marine, left for iraq a few months ago and i really have been incredibly involved in this deployment. i have sent care packages every week to him and his battalion located in iraq. this has been an amazing way to keep him close to home, close in thought, close in prayer and ALWAYS IN MY HEART!after i started sending to just his battalion i realized what an impact it has on our service men and woman overseas. it has made me want to send SO much more. i am collecting donations at my place of employment, slingers, along with the local pawnstop and old tyme barber shop with the bins set up with flyers and posters on the list of items needed. they are set up for any type of donations. our men and woman request letters, thoughts and prayers the most. prayers are always welcome and thank you for your support. hi cheryl
thank you for your response to this.. it means a lot to me that I'm getting as much feedback as I am through all of what I've done with this.. it also means the world to them overseas.. I've sent so many boxes to more than just my fiance.. its amazing.. I'm going to keep all of these donations goin.. it really has me involved with this deployment and makes time go by faster.. it also makes me feel closer to him more than the miles put between us..
I know they all enjoy the letters we put in there.. the box that I send to my fiance is always filled with letters and pictures.. and those are the most requested items.. even if they are pics of the outdoors , wildlife, stuff that makes these men and women feel closer to home.. other items sent are thinngs such as dry food goods( chips, jerky, crackers, snack packs, tuna/chicken salad lunch kits etc), daily use items ( soaps, shampoos, etc), disposable razors, shaving creme, socks(black, tan, military green), sock hats(100% wool only) etc.. just items in general that keep their mind occupied as well( cards, dvd's, books, basically u could find these items around ur house that are movies uve haven't watched in awhile or books u have read in awhile.. these items don't need to be bought from a store they will al still be greatly appreciated!
well thank you again for your response.. hope to see you soon at slingers.. thank you for you support.. our service men and women thank you as well!
danyelle

Joe Citizen,

It looks like your grandpa should have taught you and/or you parent some manners.
Maybe if you take some of your computer time & donate your time and/or your money to people like Danyelle and OUR soldiers, who may not have any family to expect a card or care pkg from.
Maybe with all the time you have, you could go volunteer at one of your local Amvets, Amer. Legion, Lions Club, or evan the VFW.
Go & talk to some of the last of our WW2 veterans if you can find one,or a Vietnam Vet who has no home due to combat & flashbacks or maybe Desert Storm 20 something's whose is fighting the demons in him from all he has saw and/or been thru in our time in history, that these men & women have no clue till they are there, what they will live with for the rest of their lives,..BUT DONE THIS FOR OUR COUNTRY & YOU.. and see if they need a hand or just a friend or someone to listen.......
I am proud to be a NSDAR member,a descendent to family who aid and/or assisted or fought in the American Revolutation, for me to have this right, proud to be a member of Amvets Post 1 Riders Group, a Patriot Guard member, PROUD TO STAND FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T. Cheryl Brewer DAR

We have 2 new locations for donations. The Pawn Stop in House Springs, and Rockers in House Springs. Pawn Stop is taking donations for postage only, and Rockers is taking donations for items and postage. Everyone's generosity is greatly appreciated. So far there have been 15 boxes sent. I will be sending out 5 more this week. Thanks to everyone for all of their support! It is deeply appreciated by myself and by the troops. I have posted a "thank you" board at both Slinger's locations; with letters and emails received from the marines. God Bless our Troops!!!

We were doing this for awhile, until we found out that the packages were all getting rooted through by superior officers.
Since you have connections though maybe this won't happen to you.Kudos for doing this.
We now collect items and help with rent and any other needs these men and woman need upon returning home, since this government seems to forget about those that have served, rather quickley.GOOD JOB though, and our prayers and thoughts are with those brave men and woman who still serve.
Oh lastly while I'm blatthering,I found it quite amazing just how important a can of silly string can be to the troops.(DETECT IED's along side the roads.)

I don't know think the packages are " gone through" by superior officers necessarily for them to take what they want. I do know that by everyone's donations the soldiers have received them and are so grateful for anything and everything they receive. They share with one another anyway. So far, I have been able to send over 20 packages to 5 different places in Iraq and the Syrian border. I have received several "thank you" emails from the soldiers. It is nice for them to have a little piece of home with them, and to know that we as a country support them in every way. I do believe that our government needs to support them more when they come home from their deployments, but I feel as individuals we can show our support in many ways and this is one of them. Thanks to everyone here at home for helping me make these donation packages happen.

.....if anyone knows of any addresses to send to troops in Afghanistan I would really like to send them some packages also. My friend and his unit came home at the end of October, so i no longer have any addresses for over there. If you know anyone you can post it here, or drop it off at Slinger's in House Springs. thanks again!! If you are reading this thank a teacher. If you are reading this in English....thank a soldier!! Happy Veteran's Day to all past, present, and future soldiers.

I dont go to House Sprigs much . What is Rockers ? Is it close to the Wall Mart ? Also what things do they need . Are you collecting stuff like hand wipes , toothpaste , gum ? what about bug spray ? There are probably sand flies over there .I dont know what the soldiers are asking for besides homebaked goodies :)

Rockers is over in the plaza behind BP in House Springs. There are also donation bins at Slingers in House Springs and in Fenton. I am collecting items such as: canned food, snacks, hand/baby wipes, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, anything along those lines. Letters are also nice. I have lists of the items needed at the locations where the donation bins are.
