Dave, do you know anything about this? We got a call this morning from a woman who said her neighbor's puppy was shot in the neighbor's front yard this morning.

What I'm trying to do is get the facts, if you know. I understand there was a police report made, and I will call about that myself next week.

Thanks
Sue

Since this was a young puppy I'm sure Mr. Dean did not really fear the puppy.
Do you know if he is going to be charged with animal cruelity. He should be.
Also is this what people who have permits to carry guns are going to do with them? I assume since he took the weapon from his car he has a permit to carry. If he does have a permit to carry it should be taken away if this is what he is going to use a gun for.

Actually Shirley, due to the "Peaceable Journey" provision in Missouri Law, no endorsement/permit etc. is required to carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle. As for removing the gun, an endorsement is required to conceal it. Pulling a gun unless threatened is considered flourishing amongst any other possible charges. This has nothing to do with concealed carry. There are morons that should not own guns, yes, I agree. However, this guy seems like a Grade A moron and would have tortured the pup some other way. You would not believe some of the abuse cases I have seen. In any case, do not make this about concealed carry because it has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Sometimes I wonder if the best punishment for animal abusers isn't to do to the abuser what they did to the animal. So say if they throw a puppy out of a window at 80 mph, the judge could say that the police throw the abuser out of the window of a moving truck at 80 mph. If the abuser hits the animal with a bat, then the abuser gets hit with a bat...etc. Make the punishment fit the crime.

Thanks for that information Matt. LOL I will be the first to admit that I don't really know a lot about the conceal carry law.

Yes DONTWORRYABOUT I will agree pets should be kept up in a fenced in yard or on a leash however if an animal is not on a leash that doesn't give anyone the right to torture or kill the animal. This puppy may have accidently gotten out of its yard. All one has to do is pick up the phone and call animal control and let them deal with the situation.

I am the neighbor to the owner of the dog that got shot. I can guarantee that the dog was not vicious. The owner has a 3 year old child and the dog was only 6 months old. I've seen the dog play with other people and my dogs and he has NEVER been aggressive. The guy who shot the puppy said the dog was attacking him yet an autopsy report shows the dog was shot in the rear side and the bullet came out the front shoulder proving that the dog wasn't even facing the man. How ridiculous is this? This guy will get what coming to him soon.

The child opened the front door and the dog took off. This is the first time the dog has EVER been off a leash outside before.

I have never heard of anyone just pulling out a gun and shooting a puppy. I think there is more to this story. Will we get to hear it , probably not.

Thank you for your input regarding this. I can understand how a 3 year old could open a door and a dog or puppy get out accidently. It happens a lot with one of my neighbors who has a young child that does not always make sure the door is secure after opening it.
As I said earlier if the gentleman had a problem with the dog being in his yard he could have called animal control. He did not have to shot the puppy.

Ok what are we talking here a 10 lb poodle or a 90 lb rottweiler ? I am thinking there is a reason no one is telling what kind of dog it is?
Maybe neighbor of the victom can help us out,

That is sad. That puppy doesn't even look like a dangerous breed. It might have been shot out of spite, or the neighbor had a fear of dogs anyway and that led the neighbor to shoot it.

Not to get off topic, but what exactly is a "dangerous breed" in your opinion? Show me a dangerous dog, and I will bet you a dollar to a donut that on the other end of that leash (if they are even that responsible) stands an irresponsible owner.

Okay, my last post didn't post so if this ends up being a duplicate, that is why.

Matt,

Having owned dogs for a majority of my life, I would agree with you that the owner makes the dog. However, you do have to admit that there are, in the "public eye", dangerous breeds such as Pitt Bulls and Rotweilers. In my opinion, those people that think that most likely have never owned a dog.

Thanks for clarifying, I just hate the term "dangerous breed" as a dog of any breed can be dangerous to some degree if they are not properly cared for and socialized. It just bothers me when people refer to them as "dangerous breeds" without one shred of scientific or statistical evidence. Before I got Aries, I was as admittingly as ignorant as most that have never actually met a "pit bull". I thought I hated "pit bulls" because the newspapers and other media told me I did. Needless to say, when a 8 week old pup curls up in your arms, you couldn't care less what breed they are, now I have 3.
