yet another case where the government is trying to make an example out of the working class man. does no one care about real injustice anymore? does no one see that the government is coming against it's citizens? i mean, throwing a 70 year old women in prison for not watering her lawn? putting a 60 year old church book-keeper in prison for making a harmless, unintentional mistake? pulling a 63 year old man away from his family, and charging him 1.7 million dollars for water falling into a drain!?! when are the citizens of this country going to wake up and see what's happening!?! soon, we won't be allowed to have sex with our spouses without a permit!!! get a life people!

Well, if the reporting is accurate, then you couldn't be further from the truth. 1. This guy's business was to treat wastes from industries prior to discharging them to a sewer that goes to a wastewater treatment plant. This is done so that the chemicals don't "upset" the organisms at the plant so that they can do all the real work of biological treatment. 2. The report said that the owner directed employees to send untreated waste to a floor drain, which goes to a sanitary sewer (hopefully) or directly to the environment. If one were to wonder why he directed employees to do this, I submit it was for financial gain (or to avoid financial loss). 3. The consequences of what he did are just as great as what had happened to Guide Corp when they had a massive fishkill due to similar negligence and criminal intent. The owner may well be a nice guy, but he did a criminal act (again, if the reporting is accurate).

I heard about this situation and you are all very quick to cast judgement. But this is our society these days. The paper read they were dumping water to the drain that had acids and caustics and anyone that understood pH neutralizing understands that the industry does it with mild acids and alkalines. Every city has discharge limits and they give out guidelines for allowable limits. Most of your wastewater plants want water at a pH between 5-10. 7 is neutral, below is acid and above is alkaline(or caustic). This company was discharging correctly. They were brought up on charges for technicalities not for discharging harmful products. Most of you that are writing comments don't understand this and you are very quick to jump to conclusions. People need to get all the facts before they crucify someone.

How do you think they knew it was 34 times? Did someone keep count? I heard the company was doing everything by the book and it was a technicallity that the Feds got him on. He had it all recorded in his 14001 program. Here's a company that was trying to do the right thing and we have made them out to be a criminal.

I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS! There is some other issues going on here that the news is not talking about. Possibly an angry X-employee trying to cause peopblems for their previous employer? The Miller owners are not the type of people to dump waste. This is just someone trying to cause problems for this honest business. Do your homework!
