I was just wondering how he is as a Judge? Is he fair to everyone? I've only seen him once and he seems to be OK? Would like some honest & fair answers from anyone who might know. My cousin is going to be sentenced tomorrow (his first offense, spotless background, no priors, home & family, etc) and would like to know if he stands a fair chance, considering that his crime was nothing compared to all the druggies and other idiots that get probation or pre-trial. Thanks.

Thanks, FYI...I was really expecting to get a lot of negative replies, of course.(You never really get anything "positive" from "Topix", but figured I'd give it a shot)The one day I was there w/ my cousin's wife, there was this jailbird dude who owed money and Judge S. said he'd seen him 151 times??! LOL! I just wondered....

Yes he is a very fair person.I had a family member that went in front of him and he was very fair.I did not say he did not give them jail time.I said i thought he was fair.I will say this if he left tommorrow they would have to search the world over to replace him. They could find anybody to set in the chair. But replace him would be a tough job!One thing about him he alway's looks like he is in a good mood.I think he is a great person.

He is a terrible judge of character, and just plain terrible judge. I have seen him be insulting, condescending and basically a jerk hiding behind his robe. No, I have not been sentenced by him if that's what you're thinking. Just observed him in action.

Thanks for all the opinions & helpful comments. I really thought that because of my cousin's past (no) record, his health, family, etc, the fact that Simms had let him out of having to pay not one red cent of $40,000 bail, didn't even serve a warrant on him last time, that he had been exceptionally NICE to him during previous court appearances, he got excellent pre-trial and pre-sentence investigation reports, etc etc... When it comes out in the paper, betcha dollars to donuts that everyone else (other than the gal who ran over the elderly lady last yr)will have been granted probation or pre-trial diversion for their crimes...it makes me absolutely SICK (even before this) to see the same names on the "Jail Logs" and in the paper for the same ol' shit over & over & OVER again-last time I attended court w/ him, there was some dude in there that Simms said had been before him 151 times??! WTF??!(And I don't doubt it, because I've seen his name a LOT-about every other week for this, that or another..lol)Another dude I've seen countless times in the paper for 'whatever'(& a sex offender, too)for a couple yrs now....he finally got time in prison, but not even a month later, he was back in the "Jail LOgs"??! Tell me how this happens. He should have dealt drugs instead. He'd be sitting pretty right now.

Oh, not that it matters now, but he stole some things...3rd degree, all of it...everybody got their things back, he didn't take it out & sell it for "drug money" or anything...I'm not saying in the very least that what he did was RIGHT; I think he just got caught up in what he "thought" was going to happen, he was thinking of his family & home, one of his doc's had him on something for someone who has ADHD (which he doesn't have, btw) and had just increased his dosage(his wife will even tell you he was pretty "odd" when he was on it..) What is really bothering me, though, is that most everyone got their shit back, but yet, the majority of them want him to pay them 'restitution" (around $2000 more or less)for it anyway? Oh, as if having a freakin'$40 electric hedge trimmer or whatever, is worth $275, or a small junky-ass(so I was told?)rusty toolbox w/ a few crappy tools in it is worth $750??? Looks like the greedy f-er's would just be happy they got it back? I've had stuff taken before,a long time ago, some was never found or seen since..probably long gone up somebody's nostrils??! A couple things were found & returned to me...did I throw a hissy and bitch and even think about filing charges? Nope. Sure, I was pissed a little about it, but you know...I look at it this way: Some ppl steal stuff for the 'thrill' of it; some do it as a vendetta against someone they think has 'wronged' them in some way; then there's others that are going through a trying time and perhaps think there's no other alternative..hell, I had a bag of groceries taken out of my car at Dollar General one day...I was hot about it,of course, but I figured that if someone saw fit to take my bag of salad, tomatoes, hot dogs, and buns and mustard, well, they apparantly needed it more than I did??
