An issue that keeps coming up is how the new high school will be set up. I have been advocating over the past year with SCC, ECTC and NC adminstrators to design the new high school with a college campus built into it. This allows students to attend all day, which permits the school district to collect monies for their attendance, but students can then have access to financial aid and grants. This policy is similar to how military bases bring the colleges to the soldiers; we need to bring the collegs to our students. It also allows poor students access to much needed money to pay for tuition. AP courses are nice, but college courses are even better. It is an idea that deserves a chance in our County. If you have the time, call your local board member or County school administrator, tell them you support a college in our schools.

That would be great!
Do you think the school could offer night classes to us older folks? Going to E-town or L-ville is just out of the question for many people.

Facebook friend,

One of the benefits of this idea is the classes would be open to adult learners at night. Also, teachers who are qualified would also be able to teach courses at night for extra income.

While classes are taught across town, the big problem is access to students so they can get full time status thus financial aid. This idea allows for every qualified student reach their college and maybe technical degree goals.

Why don't we just get a community college campus here?

E-town may be "just" a county away and Louisville is very easy to get to, but there are towns in other parts of the state roughly the size of Bloomfield or New Haven that have their own community colleges.

"Offering" college credits at local places is much less than having an actual campus (Community College or bigger) available.

BBB,

On our website, www.petertrzop.com , one of our issues is to establish a college in Nelson County. I agree 100% with you. There are so many positives with a college in our County. Until a college is started or brought to the community, this is the next best solution for our students. By waiting years for a college to be established, hundreds of students will lose out. Good idea, and it has my support.

You go Trzop! That is one of the smartest ideas I have heard in years- you got my vote!!

I believe you should clean up the old Nelson County and a few teachers that can not conduct their selves or their mouths in a proper manner,I'm a little tired of dealing with principles and teachers that can't seem to follow simple instruction,do they need me to draw it in crayon or a picture with stick people in it to illustrate,so they can comprehend the words that come out of my mouth,I'm not there to take speech lessons.

You Know a good Ideal seems to always be based upon money, yes if student don't attend school they loose money for that percentage,I figured it would come down to not what we can offer but how much we can collect, always the bottom dollar sign, poor student how about student unable to bring a text book home from class cause their is not enough for all the students to use, where are the tax money that everyone pays for going,I'll tell you where to a new addition to make more money and not provide what is needed but dictating what people won't to hear, but will probably never see.

You want to fix a solution, then how about trying to do something about the drop out rate in high schools, don't graduate or get your g.e.d.their won't be no need for a college for the new and up coming generations.

This seems like a good idea. Why not? The attacks here make no sense. I not much on Republicans, but the idea is good. I read his website, he seems to have some ideas that make sense as well. So a few kids get a head start on college, who is hurt by it. Silent is just being stupid.

No not stupid just stating reality,Half of the decisions that are thrown out their have already been dictated he is just telling you what you won't to hear, and the other plan that was going to try to go into effect, people state what you won't to hear until they get in that big chair, then it is not a person it is a panel of people.

They'll build & open up bars in Nelson county before you'll see a community college!!! Cause people view this area as a hillbilly town.

I am looking but can't find the ideas of other candidates. All I see is me in their talking. I almost threw up listening to a few of them the other day. At least this Tarzop is talking about a change, I will listen before attacking.

I think that whoever makes these decesions that Peter should think about running to be the political party. You could get somewhere. You were always pretty smart in high school. I always wanted to cheat off you but you would never let me. Mr. Goody too Shoes.
