Complaints from citizens led Barbourville Police to an active methamphetimine laboratory in the Jackson Manor apartment complex Sunday night.
Acting on those tips, Barbourville Police Department Detective Brian Senters and officers Matt Hammons and Pat Clouse responded to an apartment at the complex, where they noticed smells associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine, according to police.
Crystal Shields, 21, who was a resident of the apartment, denied meth was being cooked in the apartment and told police she was alone in the residence.
Shields initially refused consent to search the premises until officers noticed another person, Jason Honchell, 27, of Barbourville, who did not respond to their commands, police said.
After searching the apartment for other individuals, officers located an active meth lab.
Shields then consented to a search of the remainder of the apartment, which yielded an HCL generator and components used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Both Shields and Honchell were arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine and taken to the Knox County Detention Center.
A Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement/Special Investigations responded to the scene to assist with cleanup.
