It's been more than 30 years since Keith McVey used the lifesaving skills he learned as a Boy Scout, but the letter carrier didn't let that stop him from jumping into Nesmith Lake to rescue a young girl who was ...

Way to go Keith. I saw the interview on the news last night about your good deed. Not everyone can be as humble. Your friends and family should be proud.

May God keep blessing you, even if you hadn't known how to swim i believe the Lord would have given you the know how to save that young girl. Parent's make sure when you live around that much water you keep your eye's on your children, water is so very tempting, i hope you send the postman a thank you letter. now would be a good time to have swimming lessons

Keith you may not think you did anything, but to those children and their family you are most definitely a hero. Thank god there are people still out there that react in a time of need. God bless you sir!

What a great man Keith is! I sure hope that the girl gets swimming lessons after she gets calmed down over her experience. One has to be careful when rescuing someone from drowning; they'll hold on to you, and as Keith noticed, you both can drown!

Way to go Keith! On a somber note, the sad part is that folks were standing around basically watching this girl die. Too bad others weren't compelled to act. At least Keith was there at the right time!

Way to be a true man Keith! You deserve all the accolades that you will receive. And... what a refreshing contrast you provide as a resident here, compared to the black landscaper out at 2:30 AM with a handgun in his neighborhood. And when contrasted to a black guy who shoots a police officer through the head four times at 2:30 in the morning.

Something about 2:30 in the morning? Or is it something else?

Thank you Keith! You are a disappearing breed of person. We need more like you in this world.

Did anyone report this to Sommerville so he can investigate?

What a nice story. I am glad this mail carrier knew what to do and saved this child life. At the same time, this child was old enough to know she could not swim, so why was she in the water in the first place? I hope someone told her parnets, etc about what happen.

Were there really other people standing around that weren't helping? I wondered about that when the story on the news last night mentioned something about the two young girls leaving the area with an adult. And this story mentions "the woman who was watching the girls gave him a hug". Hopefully it isn't as you say, and these people that were standing around were only there after the rescue was done.

You're absolute right. Everybody else was just standng around watching this all unfold. Thank God for Postman Keith. The article stated that the woman "watching" the girls gave him a hug and was very grateful. Where in the hell was she at when this girl slipped, fell, whatever into the water? I wouldn't want her watching my kids.

I agree. I sure hope that woman wasn't those children's primary care giver. Heck, she pretty much proved she is NO caregiver.

Kudos to Keith for a job well done!

The Postman reacted to a plea for help. That day he was some ones gaurding angle. It sounds as though he had no doubts on what needed to be done.

The world is a lot better off with people like Keith the Postman. God bless you. Some mother is wondering why her daughter's cloths are wet. I wonder if the young lady even told her family what happened. If you didn't get a thanks Keith well it seems your community is greatful and is saying thanks.
