It's an old argument, I think trick or treat should be on Halloween also, but it hasn't been on Halloween for many years in some townships. I'm going to be 40 (GASP!) and we always did our trick or treating on a Friday night.

Whats the reason for changing it in the first place most towns only have it until 6 anymore so it isnt even dark. I thought it was supposed to to fun for kids not another schedule.

1 I agree. That was one of the odd things I found out when I moved to the Lehigh Valley. I thought people were just trying to pull a joke on the new guy. I don't care of events like parades and parties happen on another day, but Trick-or-Treating really should be done ONLY on 10/31, even if that days falls on an inconvenient day of the week. |

Wow are you lucky! One has to turn their front porch light 'on', to signal the kids are you participating. Since you have no power, your front porch light will be 'off'!!!! No kid will stop. Plus, you don't even have to intentionally turn 'off' all your inside lights, to pretend you aren't home. What a win-win situation! |

They only have it on Halloween anymore if the night falls on a weekend night. Otherwise its done the weekend before because parents dont want to be bothered during the workweek. And lets face it, do you really want your child trick-or-treating in Allentown anyway? If my kids were still little they would not do it here either.

anymore its the people that dont want to be bothered with the kids ringing doorbells during the workweek. Just like when we were kids you started trick-or-treating right after school and went until 10pm. Not anymore! You have to be crazy to let your kid trick-or-treat in Allentown with all the gang related nonsense going on and all the murders. Anyone of these loose screws could put on a mask and go on a shooting spree.

20 years ago was the last time I let my child trick or treat in Allentown. I told her when Halloween comes, you just tell me what candy you want, and I will buy it for you. It was just getting too dangerous, and there were too many crazies around sticking foreign, harmful objects in the treats. I think it was around that time, or shortly after, that more people started having home Halloween parties. When I moved here and found out most of the kids were coming from other towns and they were up to 20 years old, I stopped handing out treats to everyone. I made up candy bags, filled with candy and put money in the bags and delivered them myself to the neighbor children.

Im sure you went trick or treating in your day. If you do not want to hand out candy then keep your lights off and don't answer your door. No one is making you participate. |

1 That's insane! So for the convenience of the parents. Oh boo hoo they may be working on Halloween. We always did our trick or treating on Halloween, thought the rest of the country did also, until we moved here. We trick or treated on Halloween without a curfew into the dark & on whatever day it fell on & myself & many others are still alive. I think some of the parents in this area need to get with the program. It's no different whether it's done on Halloween or on a different day, bad things can happy at any time. |

Yeah no kidding! The yr we moved here Halloween fell on a Sat so they did it on that night, I thought nothing of it until the next yr when I found there was to be NO trick or treating on Halloween, it's like a Halloween version of A Christmas Carol with Scrooge as the one to thwart Halloween. Of course many young kids here don't know any different as that's how it has always been, but once my son gets old enough to really trick or treat, if we're still living here, I plan on taking him to his grandmother's house in Jersey where they actually do things normal & have Halloween on Halloween. |

Down here, trick-or-treating is still done on Halloween from 6ish until whenever (usually ten-ish is when things die down). Doesn't matter if it's a school night or not.
The parents still trick-or-treat with their kids, too. And they get "treats" as well (usually a can/bottle of beer or a shot of liquor of sorts)- doesn't matter if they have to work the next day or not. |

Trick or treat should be held on 10-31 Halloween, they don't change Christmas,New Year,Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday ,whats with that?
Make Halloween ,Halloween not convenient !! Give the kids something to remember and believe in, get involved will ya. The 31st. is the day.......... |
