we just passed a raise in taxes for non-homestead property. this is for 2nd homes. the kind of people who will pay for these higher taxes are the ones who buy the condos and come from places such as melville, ny.

They are also the people who help keep the businesses alive and give us locals an income.

Think of it like a big food chain, Idea Maker. You can't live in a vacuum. If all of the tourists disappeared tomorrow and never came back, SH would have nothing to fall back on. There is no industry. The factories are long gone.

The last thing SH should be doing is making it harder for visitors, tourists and those who do support the local economy. How far is it that those who use the least amount of the resources are paying the most for them?

you are such an idiot. I am not from Melville, NY only my server is there. I am from Chicago and have been coming as a tourist to South Haven for over 50 years. Spending money and helping your economy, I do not own property in South haven. Just enjoying it for it's beauty and for it's good people. You are an ungrateful moron who knows very little about anything and you discredit the good people who live there. I would say that you are an alien but that is only a ring around Uranus.

Unfortunately, the state is out of money. Grand Rapids is cutting its work force by 25%.(we spend 180 million dollars a day on 2 stupid wars btw)

south haven will have to raise the non homestead taxes to survive.
