Sure, let's waste some more $$$ on "Oohs and Aahs". I would support it if I knew that the people watching it could actually comprehend what it stands for. Alas, no such sense of country exists around here. Most don't know or care about the sacrifices made and the blood that was shed to provide them what they enjoy today.

So they're having fireworks again but now you have to buy a bus ticket to ride up to the dam..that will keep people from going up there to watch..also they're getting fireworks that don't shoot very high in the air..So we can't sit downtown and watch..So why is it we are doing this? I know it brings money into the city which the council have busineses that will help them make $$$$

Mr. South County, You have nothing better to do but comment everyday on items in a negative manner. Do you complain about everything? If you’re not happy with this community you can always leave. If you’re not happy with your community, instead of bitc---- and complaining about everything do something about it. You say you would support it if people could comprehend what it stands for. So you’re saying you’re surrounded by incompetent, illiterate, morons. You’re saying everyone that watches the 4th of July fireworks are un-American. You are a sad old man that contributes nothing to his community but complaints. I will watch along with my two children as I make sure they understand the meaning. While I do this, I and my children will be honoring my father who fought for this county. We will be honoring you as well because I can tell from your comment that you have also provided your services for this Country. Thank you for your time and efforts, but your negativity is harmful. Stop and think for a minute because there are people around you who care and appreciate.

This is the right thing to do, to prove to the DWR that Oroville can still stand to their part of the deal in the creation of the lake. Hopefully, DWR will also realize what the lake means to the people of Oroville and keep water in it through the fourth of July.

Councilman Art Hatley dissented, saying, "In this economy,$5,000 is a lot of money to send up in smoke."
Art Hatley needs to rethink his words. That money that is going up in smoke, is money well spent for the local economy.$5000.00 will bring in allot more than that in revinue for the city from the people who come to see the show, and buy local goods. Makes you wonder about the people making the decisions for our local Government.

thank you Oroville for bringing back the 4th of july fireworks and the opportunity to celebrate it with others. I am from Marysville and fireworks are no longer a part of our comunity due to a sad freak accident several years ago. I am proud and gratefull to be part of any comunity that celebrates the 4th of July. The fireworks add to the celebration and the people from where ever they come from add to the joy of seeing them :). See ya on the 4th Oroville
