Yep...Living in squallor, with kids running around in day old dirty diapers and driving cars missing vital pieces of equipment (like doors), but they'll spend that money on beer.

Not even close, my friend.

Bandera vs Houston - now thats a smart comparison.
Drunks per capita - check out the stats. But, I guess it was not your daughter who was killed? |

If these people want to live in the bars OK.
Lets line them up on the way out the bar's doors and do a little breathalizer. If you are drunk, you go out to the new jail and sit behind those bars. If law enforcement was at all serious about stopping public intoxication and DUI/DWI they could do it but the bar owners won't allow it. This little town is a killer. Someone served that damn drunk that killed this woman and no one remembers serving him. If no one comes forward close everyone of those bars down until someone talks. |

Thanks Shadow for your comment. I agree - the town is a killer and the bar owners apparently own the town. Its a sad little town that sweeps lives off the street.

During the hunter's BBQ, the big social event, the common saying is Bandera is a cute little hunting town with a drinking problem.
SA express news titled one of their articles about Bandera "a nice place to come on vacation and go home on probation". The former county attorney schneider routinely changed DWIs to "blocking a public roadway " and BWIs to "blocking a public waterway". Then-----deferred adjudication was given and at the end of the probation all evidence of a DWI disappeared with the charges. Wonder why Bandera kills so many people with drunks, we breed them. |

Bandera is the cowboy capitol of the world. It is specifically known for its bars, wild night life and that is about all there is to do. The road into town goes nowhere but Bandera. No one comes here to drive out on 173 to somewhere else. They flock here on weekends to drink, that is about all. |

I used to live in Huntsville and I remember talking about Livingston the way you talk about Bandera! Ha!
|
||||
I am glad this thread brings a little "ha" into your bored life but it is a shame your little laugh came at the expense of a living human being that did absolutely nothing wrong. What the hell is wrong with you anyway? Maybe a little respect for the dead is in order here, what do you think wise guy? Did you live in Huntsville or were you in the lock up? If I am saying something wrong about Bandera please by all means correct it for me. |

MRJ you have no idea apparently of the pain caused by this drunk driver. I live with it every moment. Address me if I am wrong, and if by chance you have had a daughter killed by this man or any other intoxicated person - then my prayers are with you.

I totally understand the terrible loss. I live in this community and actually this happened at the intersection going to my home. What I am upset about is the Bandera trashing that is going on here. Not everyone in Bandera "lives" in the bars!! It sounds like people think "Bandera" killed Mrs. Johnson.
|
||||
|
And Shadow, I lived and worked in Huntsville for 7 years. I also hate that everyone thinks you were in TDCJ when they hear you are from or lived in Huntsville. What I was trying to say is that there is more to Bandera than "Bars". I am very sorry for the loss and have contributed to the benefits going on for the family.

MRJ - thank you for your contributions. I used to love the Bandera area but now its tough to pass her cross, go into town and realize how much that town depends on alcohol for its income. Surely you realize that. I had property off Polly Peak for several years but sold it prior to the accident. When you pass her cross please say a prayer for all the people who travel that road that they will be safe and that the bartenders there know when to say NO. I just ask that the bars/patrons be monitored more closely even if it means that the bars loose a few bucks.

Now a local attorney has filed suit on Mr. Johnson's behalf against a local bar that witnesses say continued to serve the drunk driver before he took off for home and killed Mrs Johnson.
Serve notice the county is tired of the DWI problem in Bandera County and if a bar, even a popular one serves a drunk they will pay the price. |
