Too many prisoners suffer consequences completely unrelated to their sentences. While the staff ratio at Lieber suffers from the state budget, it is unfortunate that some of the guards do not act as they should. With what they pay their officers, they certainly aren't hiring the best and the brightest for the most part. There are a few really good corrections officers there and I have had the opportunity to meet a few of them. It doesn't sound like James had the benefit of interaction with the "good eggs." My thoughts and prayers are with James' family as they continue to grieve the loss of their loved one. To "Kid Bullied By James"- you should unburden yourself and your soul from so much hatred and animosity. It distances you from God. You fall prey to the enemy who thrives on your vengeful outlook, your hate, your animosity and anger. We all meet really bad people along the way and sometimes we have to build character and get around our obstacles. Try to look upon the difficulties in James' life and have some understanding. I agree that there are many people in prison who deserve to be there, and some should stay there forever. They should not be allowed to join back with society. James was not sentenced to death by the state-no one in prison had the right to be his judge, jury and executioner. I question if the state really has the right to take someone's life. It cannot bring back the victim. I can see the hurt and anger that might be placated in the "eye for an eye" punishment meted out with a death sentence. But then you have killed another person and the cycle goes on. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and I hope you receive all of the justice you deserve.

Diane DiLorenzo, very sorry for your loss. Read P&C Sundau article. Tragic! There are technologies that can detect contraband cell phones in prisons. A company that I consult for represents the above. Let me know if we could join you in your attempt for change as stated in the article. God bless
