I still don't understand why so many businesses want to cater to the 20% of the population that smokes rather than the 80% that doesn't. I personally have many friends and family members that don't bowl any more because of the smokey conditions. Businesses may lose some business short time, but it's been proven over and over again that the people always come back and abide by the no smoking rule. Businesses will probably also see some increase because now the non-smokers will begin to show up again.

They probably need to try to regain all the non smoking bowlers flooding the alleys in smoke free Illinois.

The small neighborhood bars in my are of Chicago have been waiting for nearly two years. I wonder how long it will take. Now that the summer is over, many gave up waiting and are ignoring the ban to keep their cuustomers. During the summer, the ban is a good excuse for even non smokers to loiter on the street in front of the bars, which has been illegal since the 60s, when many neighborhoods were changing ethnicity. Bar patrons would hassle neighborhood residents walking home from the transit center.

everyone knows, smokers drink more and leave alot better tips it is a known fact... bowling alleys count on league bowlers and the bar to stay in business... if their is a smoking ban they will lose 30 percent of their business.. which means they close their business which means another empty building in the area.. which means home prices fall in that area..........

1 There will be no mass exodus of bowlers from the lanes. There may be a few that would rather smoke than bowl, but most league bowlers will continue to bowl. There won't be a 30% drop in business. Armegeddon is not upon us because of the smoking ban. The people that do quit bowling will be offset by the non-smokers that come back. It will be a wash at worst. It's not the smoking that leads to bigger tips, it's the drinking. They will continue to drink and tip the bar maids well. Most bowling alleys have a bar. One possible solution is to allow smoking in the bar only since bars are exempt. We non-smokers won't have to put up with the second hand smoke and the smokers can all get their puffs when they need it. |

1 As a citizen if you don't want to be around cigarette smoke then don't visit the establishments that allow it. Supply and demand will then make the decision of a business. |

1 It seems that everywhere we go, there are more and more "No Smoking" zones. However, new technology allows smokers to enjoy their nicotine in a familiar form, without being subjected to No Smoking laws. NO second hand smoke! If you are a smoker, you should at least be AWARE of this technology! It could change your habit completely! Find out more at www.NoTobacco.net ! |

Maybe if the smokers were taxed to the point where they couldn't afford tobacco, then the taxpayers would not have to pay for their extended care of millions of dollars. Just maybe there wouldn't be such a rise of tobacco related deaths. |
