Bettsville board scraps PTO - The Advertiser-Tribune
In a meeting that ended in executive session, the Bettsville Board of Education met Monday evening.
The board approved employment of necessary staff for the 2008-09 school year, as well as the resignation of two staff members.
Class fees and lunchroom prices were approved for the upcoming year, with class fees remaining the same and lunch prices rising 25 cents for elementary and high school lunches, with milk costing 10 cents more. Superintendent Paul Orshoski stated the increase is a modest one considering the rising cost of commodities, and in comparison with higher lunch costs in other school districts.
The board also considered a proposal from Bettsville students for the creation of a Student-Teacher Organization to replace PTO for the 2008-09 school year. The group would serve grades K-12, and be responsible for fund-raising, Fall Fest, the Christmas program, field trips, and a number of other activities.
Board members were impressed by the students' organization and ideas, and the STO was approved.
The board also approved the Bettsville Recreation Board's resolution to pursue a .5 mil tax levy for November's ballot.
The board also noted:
* No increase in health insurance at the present time.
* Employment of Kimberly Alley as intervention specialist for the 2008-09 school year.
* Staff for the Summer 2008 Migrant Program and Migrant Image Program.
