Wow!! I just saw this in another discussion. Is this for real? I'll vote for her in a heart beat!!
Why?
Effeciency, soundness, practicality, education, experience, and integrity. Need I say more?
Education, sure. You can prove that. And I'll even concede integrity because it's such a subjective trait.
But give me an example of efficiency. And soundness. And practicality. And experience. Those are just adjectives that I could attach to anyone, from a subjective perspective. |
Do any of these labels apply to your current mayor? If so, it must be subjective. Any label is subjective so what are you arguing? Adjectives are used to describe a person. Miss Rubio falls under the aforementioned.
So rather than give examples to prove your point, you change the subject? The current mayor, as far as I can tell, is at least as worthy of the adjectives you've used as Miss Rubio. |

What has Rubio done for the community?
What local affiliations does she actively participate in? What is her level of education? What would she do for the city? |
(1) Not much. (2) Sister City program; the woman's club. Ask how many she participated in BEFORE she was elected and looking to climb the political ladder. (3) I'm fairly certain she has at very least a bachelors degree. Possibly a Masters degree. (4) She's not in it for the City. She's in it for personal achievement. Hence, her only being involved once she decided to pursue a career in politics. |

Hmmmmm....and every other politician is in it for the city and the people...right!! I'm glad no official here is in it for the achievement or any other unforeseen agenda. Thank God!! Miss Rubio is office manager, accountant, purchasing agent, public relations specialist and customer service representative - all rolled up into one. Miss Rubio has championed the needs of her municipality and her populace from behind the scenes. But what does she actually do? Because she is not thrust in the political spotlight like the mayor and council members, misconceptions exist as to how important her job really is to the day-to-day operations of city business. Too often, her position is minimized in the public's mind, when in reality; many times Miss Rubio rules the roost in city hall. So what does she do? She is a master of multi-tasking for one. She supervises the day-to-day operations and employees inside of city hall, among other things. Miss Rubio is responsible for investing the city's money, keeping official records and seals, supervising the administrative department staff and the municipal court clerk's office, and attending city meetings. She is also the chief registrar for city elections and voter registration. Miss Rubio is the liaison between residents and the mayor and council. Aside from sending sanitation bills and making deposits, Miss Rubio also handles the city's budget, prepares legal ads, purchases supplies, organizes city functions and festivals and oversees elections qualifying. Miss Rubio, who has been city clerk for nearly four years, has a lot of responsibilities - not the least of which is running the office and enforcing city rules and ordinances. It's a lot more work than people might imagine. Her day-to-day duties might vary somewhat, but Miss Rubio agrees that overseeing the daily functions of her municipality -- Handling the finer details of city business requires know-how – as Miss Rubio knows. Plus she is an educated person. For Miss Rubio in general, one of the biggest challenges to her job is having people understand the nature and importance of her position. She is here for the taxpayers. She is here for the city staff. And she is here for the elected officials. Because she deals with citizens on a regular basis, she generally has her finger on the pulse of the community, and can relay public sentiment to the mayor and council who are often part-time officials with full-time jobs of their own. Even though she seldom gets recognition from the public, she is well-equipped for public service...and possibly for Mayor. |
I've never heard of a part-time City Clerk doing all of that. Given that she's also a full time administrator in a local school district, the fact that she's able to do ALL of this, is indeed quite mind boggling. If what you say is true, I think Mayor is far beneath her capabilities. It would be a disservice to her and her constiituents to take such monumental skills and abilities to a part-time "weak" mayor system. SUSAN RUBIO FOR GOVERNOR. |
Not a bad idea Carceti. She is indeed a multi-tasker. I hear she also holds the administrator fort quite well. As sarcastic as your comments are, she actually handles the aforementioned duties with diligence. You may not be agreeable to her but like it or not she is the glue the holds the functions of city hall together. The woman has talent. Good job observer in breaking down Susan Rubio's busy and efficient schedule. She is the winning quiet horse. Bet on it.
Weird. That sounds like the job description of a City Manager, not an elected City Clerk. |
Observer, don't forget to mention that she is also really hot!! |
While she's not exactly Blanca Figueroa, she's no Shelly Sanderson either. |
i can not even fathom the idea of that Activities Director/wanna be school administrator managing anything besides the people she has back stabbed and stepped on to try to get where she tries to be
Specifics my dear watson...specifics. "Wanabe" emulating something that you would like to do. She's actually doing it...administrating that is.

Before I read your comment, I made the assumption that the position she held was City Manager rather than City Clerk. I'm not knocking admins, hell, my job would be much more challenging if I didn't have the admin support that I do, but admins aren't the directors or executive managment. In business terms, when the CEO retires its rare that his admin would be promoted to CEO regardless of how efficient they are at their job and how intregal they are to the workings and success of the CEO and company. Thats not to say that Ms Rubio isn't qualified. Since I am not that familiar with her credential, does someone have any information about executive level positions she's held either in public life, private sector or foundations and boards? |

Unless of course her name is being floated facetiously as a candidate.

I wonder if one of Ms Rubio's responsiblities is maintaining the city webpage?
Taken right from the official city webpage regarding the elected city clerk: MISSION STATEMENT “To be ever mindful of our neutrality and impartiality by rendering equal service to all with emphasis on ethics, integrity, and professionalism. The Baldwin Park City Clerk’s Department serves as a partner in democracy and is committed to quality customer service, innovation, easy access to public records, and comprehensive use of resources by: Working together to ensure the City Council, Chief Executive Officer and City staff serve with the community with openness and integrity. Providing professional and courteous customer service. Ensuring the legislative process including City elections, City Council and Commission meeting are open and public. Providing access to complete and accurate public information. Reporting and preserving the history of the City in a fair and impartial manner. ----- That's quite a bit of responsibility -- she provides support for a fair number of services. Also on the webpage: The City Clerk Susan Rubio is elected to a four-year term and works with the Chief Deputy City Clerk, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office. So it seems it is the Chief Deputy City Clerk that is responsible for the actual day to day operations that are listed. That would be Laura Nieto wouldn't it? Shooot, Laura Nieto for Council! ;) |
