Police: Officer kills Pittsburgh man after police dog shot

First of all: the "kid" in question is a 19 year old adult with a long wrap sheet including aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, & assault with intent. The police gave him the opportunity to cooperate, not once, but several times during the confrontation. They released the dog in attempt to subdue the perp (who had already drawn his weapon) without using deadly force. He then responds by firing it at police officers- not once but TWICE. They actually had the right to fire at him for having the weapon drawn and aimed in their direction. They were giving the "kid" one more chance by letting the dog loose. They were absolutely justified in firing back. There was nothing overzealous about the shooting. Trust me-- the last thing a police office ever wants to have to do is fire his weapon. This incident is unfortunate.. but could have been avoided had the young man been smart enough to -1-- not steal a gun in the first place, and 2- cooperate with the police, instead he chose to fire his weapon at police officers. His death was brought on himself by his own foolishness. If the police wouldn't have fired back who knows who else this punk would have shot! He gave them no other choice.

During my time in Pittsburgh, I also saw the police use these dogs to clear the nightclub crowd off the street on the weekends- something I have never seen in any other city. I never saw so many marine type guys with shaved heads in my life. Once I left Pittsburgh, I realized just how socially conservative the city is. Thank you Mt. Oliver Resident x2. Amen to everything you said. It is a shame that there is so much crime and violence due to obnoxious jerks with guns and dealing drugs. I say...clean the streets of Pittsburgh of this kind of trash. Sadly, it is a menace to society all over the country.
Anyone who criticizes the police, should walk in their shoes from day to day and have to deal with thugs with guns and be in life threatening situations on a daily basis to see what it's truly like. I commend police officers and their partners for all that they do. They have a very dangerous and difficult task. Their partner police dogs do a wonderful job. These beings are so intelligent and well trained.
I just know that Aulf is watching down on the police officers now. He is where nobody can ever harm him again.

I know. People who walk around under police protection and then say that the hate police should be ashamed of themselves. The people who say that are usually involved in something illegal anyway. They hate the police who catch them breaking the law. They hate the government that makes the laws. They hate the nurses and doctors that take care of them when they are sick. They hate the teachers that tried to give them an education but had to fail them because they either didn't study or just didn't come to class. They hate the boss that fired them for being lazy. They hate and rob their neighbors that work hard to be successful. They then expect society to pay for them and their choices. Part of the problem with these thugs is their sense of entitlement- like the world owes them. So suddenly the criminal becomes the victim of an unjust/unequal society. Mr Jackson was no victim-- except from himself and his own choices. He chose to commit violent crimes, he chose to steal. He chose to ignore the police when warned to stop. He made choices that now unfortunately the rest of us have to live with. I am sure that his parents are heartbroken, as would anyone be who lost a child. They are pionting the blame at the police officers who were forced to protect themselves and the community from their violent son when they should be looking at their son's actions and at themselves. I have three sons and would be devestated.. and deeply ashamed if one of my boys grew up to behave as their son did. But like I said. It is about choices. He could have chosen to live a different life. He could have chosen to get a college education and a good job. (There are ways to pay for school without a full ride.) Just like I chose to work two jobs to get through school. Just like I choose to get up and go to work everyday and to teach my children that you have to work hard for what you have. I choose to teach them moral values and to respect authority,value life and God and to give freely to others- but that they cannot expect anyone to give them anything. I teach them to be grateful for what they have. And I pray I am teaching them to make the right choices. Life is about choices. That young man made the wrong choices in life and paid the ultimate price...it is tragic but he did have a choice.

Why does anyone care he deserved it he was useless thank you for sweeping the trash city cops keep up the good work. I hope you aim more for the head more often we love you all here in Mt oliver you guys are the best this makes great television. Its reality tv at its best keep on shooting.

First of all, this police dog is an officer of the law, and he is, indeed, much more valuable than this scum of the earth that had a criminal history a mile long, and he had no regard for human life. Jackson should have been behind bars for a long time for his previous offenses.

If this were a white, Asian, Middle Eastern person or female, I know for a fact it wouldn't have mattered. A bullet is going to kill no matter what the person firing it looks like. I give a hoot about a damn dog...I'd rather have that dog than the person who was a contributing factor to making Mt. Oliver a slum for honest people that lived there their whole lives. IT sucks that Jackson died, but if he was truly trying to reform his life maybe instead of walking Arlington Ave. with a .357 in his shirt he'd a been in church!
