Cutting of pastor's role called 'vindictive'

So we have to wait for Newsday to tell us about Rapanaro's status at OLL??? Msgr. L. and the Bishop's office refused to give out any information on Rapanaro but somehow Newsday is able to get it out of them.

A little more communication between the bishop, the pastor and the people would go a long way to resolve situations like this BEFORE they get so ugly.

I would hardly call Msgr. Lisante a "conservative" commentator. This past "celebrity priest" host of the Hollywood friendly show "Christopher Closeup" is just not as liberal or screwy as the infamous Fr. Pfleger. Now that the good Fr. Mason has been given the boot watch how things fall apart at this parish from a Catholic sense now.

When you are fighting with guys like Lisante (or Bp. Murphy, for that matter), you are not fighting the Church... you are fighting the ENEMIES of the Church that have infiltrated, subverted, co-opted.

This modernpriest.blogspot.com guy is doing an amazing job of exposing the REAL Jim Lisante.

It's sad really because Bp. Murphy occasionally does something good! But for every good thing he does... he seems to do three lousy things.

They say that "the floor of hell is lined with the skulls of bishops." I used to think that was rather harsh... but no longer do I think it's harsh. Many bishops do net even believe in a hell today! I think they call that "Universal Salvation". To listen to some of Lisante's homilies, I would have to say that he only condemns the ones who excercise any kind of judgement. Those who have been rendered mentally or emotionally incapable of judging anything are the only good guys in his kind of world!

Lisante is a huge question mark. Never seen around the parish, he never seems to say Mass during the week or hear confessions.

Here's the real question @ Lisante: Where does he live during the week and what does he do?
I'd love to hear the answer to that one.

Here we go again, Bart Jones & Newsday are on a mission, and do we not have more import things going on in the News today then to hear how Msgr. Lisante made some new changes at this Parish? We have Presidential & Congressional Elections coming up, we have an economic crisis, wars in Iraq & Afghanistan and these small minded parishioners are upset because Msgr. Lisante changed a Mass Schedule. Maybe it’s me but years ago as a child I had to sit in church with my parents and act accordingly. The personal attacks on this blog are a disgrace. But then again Halloween is coming around so someone needs to be on a witch hunt. People snap into reality if you don’t like the Catholic Church then leave, but don’t constantly cause division at a time when faith is so needed in the world today. I can understand making people aware. But every time a Parish on Long Island changes some program, it does not have to be publicized in the Daily Newspaper. It is up to the discretion of the Priest in charge and his staff.
As far as where Monsignor Lisante is during the week, this man has never been accused of any wrong doing, no priest is tied to his rectory 24 hours a day, and this is no one’s business but his. Where he may have a residence or what kind of car he drives does not have to be public information. So do all of us a favor and mind your own business. If you want to worry about something, give charity to someone who needs it. Check on a Senior Citizen that is living alone, make a meal for them or go and visit them. Go Check on a friend who may have lost someone they love very much go spend some time with them. Look through the clothes in your closet and get together the things you don’t need or wear anymore and give them to charity. But either way people please try to do something useful and productive to contribute to society instead of crucifying someone over and over again for doing a job he was appointed to. Either way no one is going to win in this situation not him or the handful of parishioners causing this division, let it go already. What’s done is done. If you don’t believe in the Catholic Church, believe in Karma because what goes around comes around. I guess everyone that is writing on this blog is without sin, so therefore you are all fighting to cast the first stone. Good Luck!

Cutting mass schedules is a common trend around the country. My church has gone from 7 weekend liturgies to 5. With a rapidly shrinking priesthood, this is a necessity.

Hey Here We Go! Howz this for a crisis: We have an effeminate priesthood which watches the back of the others who are not living their sacred vows and constantly whining about celibacy!

We have emptying seminaries because of the 'FEEL GOOD' theology that guys like Lisante teach & Murphy ENABLES.

We have Catholic voters who have no problem with voting for a dangerous fellow like BHO! We have theologians who hated JP-II because he was not Fr, Fr. Andrew Greeley! Thus we have Catholic politicians who have no problem subsidizing laws to protect sodomy!

You talk about the current 'culture wars' and finding someting better to do: Those of us who know history know that the loss of sacred tradition in the Church is what got us here in the first place. There can be no 'social justice' without orthodoxy & truth.

The longer "Diamond Jim" remains at OLL, THE MORE GOOD PEOPLE ARE ADDED TO OUR NUMBERS... and the more galvanized we become. Folks like those at OLL don't negotiate with terrorists!

Diamond Jim & Mansion Murphy can try and hold Fr. Mason over our heads if they like but in the end it will be the means by which many more will be added to our numbers.

Yes, VOR, cutting Masses is a necessity when you have a priest shortage. We all know that, but that's not the point here. Out of pure spite, Lisante took away a Mass from a retired priest which he was very willing and able to say.

That is a big problem for the ever-PR conscious Diamond Jim and a great injustice to an elderly priest.

I go to OLL,and I like Msgr. Lisante personally, but he has made some bad decisions, first with bringing in a suspended priest and then hiring a singer who directed "My Big Gay Italian Wedding."

Massapequa Park is a conservative Republican place, and that kind of thing is a real insult to people like myself who don't support gay marriage.

Lisante should be moved somewhere else where people will be more comfortable with his liberal agenda.

Many OLL parishioners asked for a conservative pastor in the spring and "Diamond Jim" is what we got. It's not fair to us and it's not fair to him.

In fact, Lisante brought a suspended priest into the Diocese for eight years without informing the diocese or bishop. When Bishop Murphy found out, he expelled that priest. If that's not *wrong doing* and incredibly irresponsible behavior in the post-sex scandal Catholic Church, I don't know what is.

Lisante betrayed the trust of the people. He could have straightened things out with a simple apology and most people would have forgiven him, but he went on and defended himself in the most pompous way imaginable in the parish bulletin.

Furthermore, he hired a music minister, the director of a gay musical, and when people complained about that, only then was it discovered that this guy is under investigation by the Diocese of Rockville Centre and STILL IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR SERIOUS ACCUSATIONS. Call the chancery and find out yourself if you don't believe me!

Lisante may be a pleasant guy who gives out nice, inoffensive sermons, but in the practical order, he's a lawless thug.

Why is that Lisante trying to get rid of Fr. Mason's children's mass? I remember going there once or twice when I was younger. Is he trying to get rid of something that's been in our parish for so long? It's like getting rid of the church or the chapel, which he might do in the spirit of his Liberal style. Doesn't Bishop Murphy remember that 400+ crowd of people who were in the auditorium in front of his panel requesting somebody who WOULDN'T do exactly what Lisante is doing? So yeah, instead, he sends us the politically correct Lisante (probably as a punishment for his McCain endorsement). There have been rumors that Lisante didn't even want to come here. If you look at it from his viewpoint, why leave a comfortable, affluent parish like St. Thomas the Apostle, where he had everything he wanted and needed, minus troublemakers, and go to an ultra-conservative parish where people obviously wanted someone like Father Mason?
For him, it's probably like being president of the United States for one term and then being demoted to the sheriff of Dodge City!

It is ABSOLUTELY the parishioners business to know where their pastor spends his time. They pay his way indirectly through their own contributions to the diocese.

Any pastor that would utilize a priest with no faculties despite the diocesan guidelines, dismiss this when caught at it as an act of ‘charity’, leave so many parishioners calls unanswered, isolates himself from his parish (as Lisante has done here and as he did at St. Thomas the Apostle), hire a known gay propagandist like Rapanaro, and treat a retired priest the way he is… deserves the treatment he is getting at http://modernpriest.blogspot.com

Unlike many threads on Topix, I hope if I engage you that the discourse remains respectful. I have a lot to say on this subject and you appear to be informed, although quite resentful or angry at the modern church.

I'm not sure if Lisante said it exactly the way you phrase it, but even in the Catechism,(which I don't have with me), it states that if someone after deep and prayerful reflection, is certain of a moral position, even if it goes against the teaching of the church that individial may be compelled to act on his own moral judgment. Now, my vocabulary may not be as eoloquent as yours, but I believe what I jsut stated is true.

Libs and feminazi's in Huntington!!! That's really funny, only if there is some truth in that. I know some conservative priests have ocmplained about women at huntington teaching new age theology or some less than authentic philiosophy. YOu remind me of a fat old priest who retired to Florida after spending too few days of his own in a rectory.

In any event, I know the name calling directed at Lisante since his days as a "model" while in college. I don't know him well, but know he is disdained by many priests, in part for his fame and pretty boy looks. Whenever I have heard him speak, he makes sense to me.

There are so many bad , disengaged, uninspiring priests, its too bad that a charismatic Lisante is a lightning rod for so many people's anger. That's not even taking a position on whether it is justifiable or not.

There is good news and bad news her. Dunne has about 4 years to go before he rides off into the sunset and bad news is we still have about 6 years of Murphy. Good old DVC, land of the liars.
