Communities that have instituted such bans often find that the irresponsible owners and the criminals who use dogs for illegal purposes simply switch to another breed. To ban a Whole breed is NOT the answer.
I am totally confident that all this was discussed by the 100 + cities/counties that banned this breed.
What you have is "someone" proposing the ban...then the Pit owners state their case and the city council votes after all sides are heard.
I want to add that many cities also "include other breeds" that are banned as well.

when owners live up to their responsibilities to obey nuisance laws, keep their dogs at home, and train their dogs to have good manners at home and abroad. These steps will decrease the number of dog bites, the surrender of dogs to shelters for bad behaviors, the nuisance calls, and the restrictive laws that are making things worse, not better.

Actually not. Communities that ban NBKs find that deadly dog-attacks go down and stay down. PItts/Rots/Dobs are the source. Remove them and stay safe. Killer-poodles & beagles exist only in cartoon-strips.

If I came to your property I would probably be a cop and arresting you for something. I'm not a cop but if for some reason I was on your property I would be armed and quite dangerous and may have a pound of "tainted hamburger" meat. Get it?
I don't have Pit Bull owners in my neighborhood...so I don't run with your likes...get that too?

i am a pit bull owner and if you were on my property armed and dangerous you wouldn't have to worry about my dogs . I would be armed and dangerous and you would be the one in jail . You can't come on someones land armed and shoot a dog a person no matter what neighborhood you are in .. get a grip ...

what you dont mix with white 47 year old females with a husband, a son in the USAF and a baby grandson of 5 weeks, wow that cuts out a HUGE section of socitey, must be lonely in your hovel.

And I have a pit becuase I would NOT see the poor mite run wild down the front entrance of our sub division in 90+ degree heat, was she running full pelt to catch up with the sad sacks that just abandoned her.....we shall never know.....but what we do know is that at our home she is a loved and valued member of the family, that eats well, sleeps safe and has medical probably better than you do..........oh and as my dog is a house dog you would not be able to use tainted meat on her, she will not take food from others..........

Two pits, a male and a female trapped me and my six month old inside my house. I called the S.O. to come out as they were snarling and growling on my front porch, the male dog was actually chewing the door frame. Yes, I had a 9mm, AND a pump shotgun, but I was afaid I couldn't shoot both of them before the other breached the door or window. The dogs tried to cut the deputy off from his cruiser when he stepped out to ask if we were ok. Animal control came out and darted one, and the other was turned inside out by a truck as it chased the deputies car down my driveway, biting at the wheels. Later that morning, a third pit female appeared in my driveway, and I called animal control to come and get her body after I shot her. Bottom line, yes, all dog breeds bite and can "turn" on humans, but I will take my chances with a rabid yorkie with a three inch bite, versus a genetically programed killing machine that can easily crush bone and rip muscle and tendon from your body.

Susie, I didn't understand your first question.
The answer to your second question is "yes". The answer to your third question is "yes".
And I didn't understand the grass statement as applied.
Pit Bulls seldom go after adult males...they prefer the weak, elderly and especially children and their own family members. If that is what you like...congrats.

Sounds like you handled this with care and control.
Just for fun...I would have shot a long stream of ammonia at one just to see if it piss-ed him off or he hit the road like most dogs do.
I found as a kid that if you blast a mean dog with a shot of ammonia, they will not forget you and they will keep their distance.

I don't think you would have tried, even for fun, had you seen these two beasts attacking my front door frame, ripping splinters of wood off. Sounds like a great idea, shoot two raving pits with amonia, they leave, and maybe next time they catch me and my infant in the yard. No thanks, I will continue to dipatch them on sight on my property.

It was bizarre to say the least. I have been around dogs all my life and have never seen anything like it. The animal control facility ran a post mortem rabies test on all three of the animals, and they were all negative. Just big, mean, toothsome, dogs that escaped from their owner. I have two large lab mixes now, but I still get goosebumps when I see a pit straining at the collar, dragging it's owner down the street!
