80 mph while trying to pass a big rig doesn't seem that fast to me.

Seems that trying to pass a big rig at any slower speed would probably have been far more dangerous.

Condolences for the family of Kaitlyn, who would have helped even more people. Unfortunately, 80 mph was negligent for that type of vehicle, the number of people inside, and the level of responsibility that it entailed. If you are late, or behind, then you are and accept the situation. There are cell phones that someone can use for guidance. Big rigs are to be respected for the potential kinetic energy that their sheer weight could cause severe damage to anyone/thing. What is that axiom? Speed kills. Being respectful also means protecting future individuals by finding the cause of the accident, and preventing accidents. I feel sorry for the driver, who should have been a professional driver, or more mature driver with life experience. Better safe than sorry.

I Am Always With You

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.

I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I traveled on alone.

So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
That it is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear

And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home".

I will reserve judgement on the poor driver. I drive that route every year. I can imagine driver of the van filled with people wanting him to get them home and maybe telling him to pass the truck. The truck was probably going 60-65 mph on the desert hwy. In order to pass a truck safely you need to be going 10-15 mph faster than the slower vehicle. Many times these trucks like to mess with other drivers by making it difficult to pass them by speeding up when you come up on the side. I'm not saying that's what happened but you can't say that it didn't either. By the way, California maximum speed limit is 70 mph when posted for two axle vehicles. When passing a four axle truck that's moving at 60-65 mph you gotta go at least 75 mph. When the officer says the van was moving at about 80 mph, that could mean 75 mph.

To the family, I'm so sorry for your loss of this blossoming flower. I also have a daughter and attended MT SAC. So sorry.

My memory of Kaitlyn as a 9th grader was a person with a big, bright smile and who was always laughing. My heart goes out to her family. Your loss affects more people than you will ever know.

the driver was careless about the lives he had in his hands. he should be charge with vehicular manslaughter. This was just plain ignorant to think you have to pass a big rig to keep up with the rest of the caravan. As I always say I would rather have to make a u turn or just wait until the coast is clear to be on my merry old way. There are plenty of drivers out there who are horrible drivers and do not have a scathe on their driving record........I know several people who drive bad but have no tickets......Perhaps this driver should have thought of his peers and not himself while driving. People make fun of my slow driving all the time ask me if I care....NO, cuz I know i will be home alive and so will my friends. The highways they are talking about are notorious for danger, so why would you drive so carelessly? I hope the CHP charges this guy with reckless endangerment and Vehicular manslaughter, if that were my daughter I would push for the maximum sentence. Carelessness is no excuse for a deathly accindent.

This driver should be charged. I am sick and tired of drivers getting away with grievous driver error. This jerk didn't have to pass the tractor-trailer, this fool could have just stopped and waited. This driver should not even have been driving this van. A special Class license is required. He should be charged. And yes he is responsible for this girl's death. An accident? Yeah, this lax California Law enforcement and highway system is an accident. How many more are gonna die? Charge him.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Aquarius

Unfortunately it won't take much to get your wires crossed, especially if you're trying to keep track of your Christmas preparations. It's hard to work out what still needs to be done. A member of the family is away with the fairies or is being completely fanciful. It's a pest because that sort of behavior can make you feel anxious and harassed.
