A Seattle woman who is receiving welfare assistance from Washington state also happens to live in a waterfront house on Lake Washington worth more than a million dollars.
Federal agents raided the home this weekend but have not released the woman or her husband's name because they have not officially been charged with a crime.
However, federal documents obtained by KING 5 News show the couple currently receives more than $1,200 a month in public housing vouchers, plus state and government disability checks and food stamps. They have been receiving the benefits since 2003.
The 2,500 square-foot home, which includes gardens and a boat dock, is valued at $1.2 million. And even though the couple has been receiving the benefits for nearly 10 years, records show that they accurately listed the address of their current home when applying for the state and federal benefits.
A federal official told KING 5 that the couple likely took advantage of a loophole, which allows low-income individuals to receive financial assistance to help them pay their rent and move away from housing projects. However, the law does not require officials to verify what type of home the benefits recipient is living in.
As if the million dollar home weren't enough, the supposedly low-income couple also gave money to various charities and traveled around the world to locales in Turkey, Tel Aviv and resort towns in Mexico, according to court records.

Well if you want honesty than their is a big difference! people who are breaking their necks to put food on the table and don't qualify for food stamps have to buy everything cheaper. People who do receive food stamps can buy all the more expensive iteams. This is outrageous.

Kind of like watching welfare recipients standing in line waiting for MY $$$ as they chat on their iPhone or Droid...phones nicer than we working stiffs can afford.

Or the flashy rims on their cars, thousand dollar speaker systems, and designer clothes.

i think a lot of them gonna pay for their sins one day. not the ones that actually need the help but the ones steeling from honest hard working people.and just because u dress up And go to church on sunday doesnt make it right to be lazy the rest of the week. i feel sorry for the people who have lost jobs and the elderly who are struggling to get by

So, who says these particular crabs weren't cheap? Maybe they were on sale. Besides, the sign simply said, "Food stamps accepted here". We don't know if anybody used them to purchase crabs. Maybe they bought lees expensive fish. Surely you don't begrudge a poor person some fish, do you?

Well that's true, who knows? But all I'm saying is if they are broke and need assistance they could stretch those food stamp dollars and buy what they need, not want. Not all people who have them abuse them but some of them do buy the best and think they are entitled to nothing less. That's what's wrong. Ever heard "beggers cant be choosers"? Well that doesn't apply to people with food stamps! I'm not saying all people are guilty but a lot of them are.

Typing in capital letters doesn't make you right. The vast majority of people on government assistance are on it temporarily, but people like you always want to claim that they're all a bunch of lazy bums who won't work.
