Good for her and the others who choose this program. Also, good for the law makers and that continue to fund this program/facility, even in these financially difficult times. It seems to be making a difference...

Seems to be a good program. The question that I would like answered is : " Who paid for her college education?' Was it the taxpayers?

I like programs like this that help people who have had a problem with their moral compass pointing the wrong direction. I think lazy law makers have opiated the public with mandatory sentences and long prison terms for what could be called mild criminal activity. Like the man who got life for stealing a slice of pizza. I feel we need to trust judges to meet out justice, and not micromanage their decisions.

People bay and large are good, when they have recalcitrant behavior it is usually a matter of education, not punishment that will make them valuable members of society.

Ms Putnam deserves admiration for bringing this program to reality. That said, it seems a bit sexist that it is only for women. I get the child component, but there are men who also are low level offenders that get childhood long sentences and are ripped from their toddler children as well.

People do quite well with civilization, we have built some mighty cities, but our humanity has not remained as strong as it was in centuries past. We will become a much stronger society with a greater nod to helping each other than punishing each other.

Stealing a slice of pizza was his third offense(strike. I'm certain this person CHOSE to break the law more than 3 times. By Low-levels you actually mean low-life. You may have chosen to name the criminal activity mild, but unless you have become a victim youself, you'll never know what it feels like. There are also Educated people who break laws and are sent to prison. Laws are meant to be followed not broken. When someone commited fraud against my family it cost a lot of time and money to clear things up.

So our tax payer dollars are going to pamper criminals who choose to do criminal acts. What about the victims of crimes. Criminals DESERVE harsh penalties and hard time regardless of the crime.

Stealing a slice of pizza DOES NOT justify 25-years to life. Hello? If you really
think this is adequate you are either MENTALLY CHALLENGED or BIASED; therefore, either or, or you are not in a position to given an INTELLIGENT OPINION. The low life is YOU. Take a look at yourself in the mirror.

I stole a piece of pizza from my business partner when he wasn't looking during lunch, should I be sent back to prison? On the subject now, this young woman will now be able to contribute to society, rather than become a strain on our economy.

I lived a crime free life and paid for my own under graduate and graduate school. This person steals from others and has her college tuition paid and her child raised by the State of California. How fair is that. No wonder why California is going bankrupt. I hope this lady pay check, if she has one, is getting deducted for the education I paid for. I'm sure I'm paying for her damn welfare too while her baby daddy is still spawning with other women. Stop free loading convict.

Once a thief always a thief.I wouldn't hire any of these people no matter if they had a degree as a rocket scientist. These people all have one thing in common no matter the crime and it is lack of a moral character. The only reason why an employer would hire a felon instead of a law abiding person with the same skillset is because they get a tax write off.So the honest, hard working, law abiding people sit home unemployed while the scumbags among us get rewarded.Only in America.
