Guess its OK to attack me? Make up your mind.
I don't care anymore what happens or doesn't happen with a beach. MY tax money won't be spent on it. Just hope my fellow tax payers don't get stuck paying for a worthless cause.

I think a beach would be a great ideal only if it was privitized. This would eliminate all liability and financual responsibilty from the city. Whomever opened the beach would have the burden of up-keep and security of the beach. They would also have to go by the rules set by the city.

I have heard that the land where the beach would be built is Not even in the city and that it also would not fall under our fire and police juridications? Is this true? Then who would have the right to patrol and protect it? How would this work? Do we have boats to do water rescue? Are our members trained in water rescue?
There are just so many questions that need to be addressed. Will someone answer them?

I've asked the same thing and no one answers. Most are like a 3 year old - they want it, so there! One of the posts earlier on another subject post said that the city doesn't even have enough money to run itself - they're using the gas well money. If that's the case, where the hell are they going to get the money to pay a police officer to patrol it, the fire department to rescue people, and the water department that they want to put up a fence? They're just crazy!

so you dont want it because why again? you look bad in a bathing suit? me and my friends would use a beach all the time.

how can the police be too busy to patrol it? most the time i see the cop cars parked at city hall, not out patroling anyway.

once its set up all the city would need to do is pick up trash and get the outhouses cleaned out once a week. big deal.

What out-houses? who will pay for them?

Yea, an FYI**that area in not within the city limits so it falls under the county sheriff's office to patrol and as for fire and/or water protection, that falls under another fire department and water rescues fall to the water board, so yea, guess we won't have to cover it at all, just get all those volunteers I hear about to clean the shitters, but you'll probably have to use the woods.
And please, haslet, don't wear any briefs as a bathing suit, the "overhang" would be disgusting.
YUK!!
Hay why don't you insure the beach? Can we put it on your home owners insurance policy? Now this I would approve. LOL LOL LOL

RMC, in case you have a short memory and/or just conveniently forgot for arguments sake, we had someone drown after using our boat launch not that long ago. Did the city get sued because he put his canoe in the water at our boat dock without a life jacket? No, it did not. The boat dock is use at your own risk just like the beach would be.

Now, if the city provided a full time life guard and he then failed to properly supervise or save someone THEN the city might be liable, as well as the life guard for a drowning. Does the city of Padre Island get sued when a drunk beach goer during spring break drowns? NO THEY DO NOT.

An unsupervised public beach is just that and it is no more of a liability than having a public boat dock and someone getting injured or drowning who used it.

And I know one of the Azle beaches charges a fee to enter and use it and the city could do the same, such as by issuing a season swim pass for instance. This would offset costs like toilet maintenance during warm weather. And keep in mind, this beach will only be open for roughly 4 or 5 months of the year, too. So even the outhouses won't be needed for servicing during this 8 month down time.

Once the beach area is made usable, the ongoing expenses on maintaining it are not that great compared with many other ridiculous and excessive city expenses the voters know you support. And you do a major public disservice as a council member by constantly misinforming the voters about it who have kids who would frequently use it.

You do what you want for the beach, volunteering might help you lose some weight.
But when the bottom line comes, you'll see what will happen and who is at fault.
Just because I don't support it, you go right ahead, no one is stopping you. I don't have to agree with it all.
I've seen this type of problems before and it cost that city a bundle in law suits.

RMc people read these things to try and understand what is going on in the city and to be more informed as a council member I would think you would be more mature and pay more attention to what you say. Please leave the school yard banters alone. "volunteering might help you lose some weight." Stick with the facts of the topic reading your blogs is why I stopped looking at this site for several months. I had hoped it had changed. As adults we have a responsibilty to the kids in this town. From the commits on this site I think it is no wonder that the kids today are so messed up.

Please don't take this the wrong way as I do not want an arguement or fight, but I don't feel that the city is responsible for entertaining the children in our town. We are facing budget shortfalls, no, our town is basically bankrupt. We are already losing services such as animal control due to lack of funds and I hope we don't lose more manpower in other areas. Our city workers are stretched as thin as they can be stretched on a very small salary compared to other cities. Many could leave and go to another city and make much more money but they do their job because they love this town and its' people.

My concern with this beach project is simply manpower to patrol and handle emergencies that will most certainly arise. When the drug dealers and potheads go down there, it is our police that will respond first. When people go down there with their grills unattended or shoot off fireworks, it is our volunteer fire department that will have to respond. Have you done a sex-offender check online lately? There are many perverts out here who would love to be down on an unsupervised beach full of secluded woods with these children. When something happens, who will be called? Yep, our police department. These men and women give their time but can only be in so many places at once. I read earlier that it was proposed to sell passes for the park. Who will be checking the passes - unless YOU volunteer, it will be no one.

Don't get me wrong - I totally agree that kids need things to do that are productive and fun. I think those things are a parent's responsibility, not the city's. Do the schools still have YMCA or Boy's Club/Girl's Club activities in the summer? If enough kids from our city would participate, a bus could be sent for them to attend. The YMCA has scholarships available for those with low-income needs. We have Squiggly Park so maybe different parents could take different days and watch the kids while they play and have a picnic. What about opening City Hall and volunteers could have movies and popcorn or arts/craft classes? Since there is a kitchen there, maybe someone could host low-cost "cooking with kids" classes for simple things kids could make for themselves, especially if a parent is working? Maybe some of the men that are availble in the daytime could work with young men to show skills such as carpentry or painting or welding? They could then give back to the city by helping with projects our elderly need? All of these activities are within walking distance and wouldn't need a car for transportation, just like a beach project. Yes, a beach would be fun but times are tough right now and kids need to see that sacrifices are made in tough times. It might happen in the future but I just don't see how it could happen right now without proper funds or manpower.

All parents are strapped right now but times are tough for all of us, myself included. I feel that parents need to start thinking creatively for free things to do with their children since our city is unable to help right now. For me, if it comes to a beach park or city services, I'm afraid I'd have to choose city services.

Again, I'm not trying to stir up a fight or attack - just trying to get people to think about what they can do for their own children without the help of the city. I've listed a few things that might be possible. Maybe if we kept adding to the list something good could come from it as we work together for the kids.

I believe that the city should reconsider this project. I read where the land is not city property, so who gets the money from tickets that would be served? Would our fire service be able to control a fire before being asked by the fire service who controls it? Is the city getting tax money from this land? Who would rescue someone if they got into trouble while in the water? Does the city have a boat?
Why hasn't the city annexed this property? Why is the city putting in man hours and money when they don't own this land?
I just feel that other services could be provided that is within the city and on city land. Just a thought.

Anything activity for kids is a good thing. If a beach isn't on City property, it can't be sued. Lakes are for public enjoyment. If you get injured swimming or boating in a lake you don't sue the Lakes owner. It's a risk that you take. A public swimming pool is another thing. Make your beach and let the kids enjoy it. You have nothing to worry about.

The city would be responsible for all actions, good or bad on this beach. There is a contract between the water board and city thus the reason the city is required to carry 1 million dollars of libality coverage. This way the water board will not be held responsible in law suits.

In the early years of the city a pool was built, it has since been filled in with dirt. The city's old impound lot now sits where the pool existed.

After a lot of soul searching (yea, I really have one!) I changed my mind and decided that the beach project is a good idea after all.

I think it will be a good opportunity for alderman Hunter to take a bath and it will make it easier for the drunk mayor to sober up after a hangover before council meetings! Win-win!

While it's probably true a few of the unsupervised kids may drown over time, I decided I feel that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the drowned few. And honestly, the city will be held for no more liability in the drownings then they already would be if someone drowned swimming out there now.

And since it looks like the city might spend almost no money on it now, how can I now possibly refuse it? Well, besides the fact I think I possibly lost the election over this single thorny issue. Of course, now I can't reverse my vote against it in the future, but oh well, live and learn a little every day I like to say!

I'm also sorry to all my loyal supporters for not supporting this beach project as I should have earlier on. I was clearly wrong and I am now man enough to admit it!

And if you don't name the PD building after me for all my dedicated service fighting corruption greed, and oppression, then please consider naming the beach after me instead!

Thank You for your consideration!

im so tired of reading all the post named after Renee. She stood her ground on the beach issue and made her points clear.
I would really like to know WHO wrote ALL these post using her identity, cause you are nothing more than the lowest creep there ever was.
I'm appaulled at the attitudes of the so-called MAN who wrote this crap.
Could it be the mate of that cleaver council woman, OPPS I mean man?? Sounds like his type.
