Very well said, JustWondering! If we could get rid of those on their "powertrip" and their followers (aka the Board members), maybe our teachers would be treated with consistency and respect. Until then our district will continue to suffer.

I know a young man in the Azle band... a very talented musician who wants to go into music as a career. I put considerable weight on this young man's opinions.... he's a good kid. He says the new director doesn't know what he is doing as a musician or a leader. The kids don't respect him. To my horror, this new band director told the kids that the band exists merely to support the football team. How degrading! No wonder the kids are dropping out. This is a lesson in how NOT to teach.

Former Band Mom in Azle;

My apologies, with all of your postings I thought the thread was about you. And incidentally, from your posts, I know all I need to know about you.
You seem to be like a great many, "all blow and no go". If you know so much about the quasi-government, why do you allow it to continue? Too much effort to get involved! I'll talk to you any way that I like and if you don't like it, you may blow it out your self righteous *ss. Have a wonderful day!

For years I've watched the band and observed the successes the kids have worked so hard to enjoy. Good leadership and dedication brings out the best in any of us. Dr. Grant's leadership and dedication has been demonstrated over the years to bring out the best in these kids. What "justwondering" has pointed out I think is right on the mark and what I've observed is too much of the "good ole boy" mentality on the school board, including the AISD administration. Our system simply failed us. Here's a man accused of a serious violation and ultimately found not guilty. The district had numerous options to demonstrate its own integrity and do the right thing, even if he wasn't their favored employee. Now ..... it’s too late. What the board has done has angered a community that seems to see the big picture better than those we regard as having the education, experience and judgment to operate a quality educational system in our community. That doesn't seem to be the case. As for me .... my vote will be counted at the next election. The board has not heard the community in the short term. I'm asking Azle to be heard at the poles and deliver a message through their vote that the board may understand.

Citizen2, I too plan on making my vote count. Say we do get rid of the majority of board members, that still leaves us with a terrible superintendent and an awful principal who both think settling scores and holding grudges is a professional, effective way to run a school. How do we get rid of them?

If I understand the LTE comments in the local news correctly, the only reason that Dr. Grant,(and others) were not rehired is the fact that they didn't submit a contract renewal form on the date due.
Now many are asking why didn't the AISD ask them whether they had intentions of renewing their employment.

Why would any employer, no matter how incompetent have to go around and actually ask some one whether they intended to stay as a teacher when a policy was in place, with a stipulated date for them to declare their intentions.

Come on folks, we are talking,(theoretically) about mature, responsible educators. They know the rules, why should any one have to lead them around by the hand to get them to comply with policy?

Either follow the rules or get out, and in the future don't p*ss off the wrong people!

Termination due to expiration of a contract has never been standard operating procedure in Azle (or most districts in Texas). Nor is it grounds for temination, according to the Tx Edu Agency. If a new policy was implemented by AISD, then the teachers should have been some of the first to know. Yes, they should follow protocol, but in the past the expiration date has just been merely a formality.
If AISD doesn't like a teacher, then they should grow a pair and just fire them! Stop wasting our money and our time with all this investigating and total b.s. Their motives are SO transparent, they do not realize how ridiculous they look.

Azle Citizen; Not trying to argue with you, but my understanding is that this policy has been in place for many years. It was just never utilized. When any individual fails to abide by a written policy, the that just gives the people that he p*ssed off a LEGAL reason to fire him, and/or others. The reason may not be valid but it would hold up in court. Am I missing something here!

So what do you suppose you'll do next if he ISN'T coming back? What's your plan then? You've basically told the band that they're bad and you probably talk about it with the kids around as well. YOUR KIDS are the band, not the old director who couldn't follow simple directions about signing his own contract. You're right about one thing - I have no clue, about what you are complaining about. You're just like the people who don't go to church because a pastor did them wrong. They put their faith on the man and not the One that they should. I see the same thing with all of you crying about this man. You've got your faith in the wrong thing. Something for you to think about...
God judges and give the most hypocritic answers. For yourself, the Lord judges and for you to judge? Come to Pelican Bay my son and we will see who is judged.

To All; Well, I think that the article in the latest Azle News pretty well answers the issue of Dr. Grant. A principle, one Laura Bynum doesn't like him and has decided that he needs to go. I find it amusing that the longer this issue goes on, the more is found to degrade and demean Dr. Grant.
I believe that I mentioned before that Dr. Grant had possibly pissed off one of the favored ones here in Azle, and the article just verifies that assumption. Obviously the AISD DOES NOT control the school district, certain individuals do. They ALL need to be replaced with individuals of principle that have the ability to utilize "common sense" and logical reasoning".
Of course this doesn't seem to have happened yet and probably never will. Such sanctimonious, self righteous hypocrites in charge of thousands of children, hundreds of employees and millions of dollars. We should be able to do much better!

Scotty, you are right. The favored ones have been digging for dirt on Dr. Grant the last six months. Their transparent motives have been exposed during this "witch hunt" and the article makes that clear. I am tired of these individuals and will support an effort to get rid of these "sanctimonious, self rigtheous hypocrites". Azle deserves much better than this!

Former Band Mom in Azle; Obviously, your involvement made absolutely no changes as Dr. grant will not be rehired due to the antics of a principle! I'm sure that everyone is so proud of your help! Keep on voting for the existing AISD board!

I DON'T support the current school board -I said that in an earlier post...I have wanted several of them out for a while but ONE person can not change that. I knew Bynum had something to do with this and while my son attended AHS I had several meetings with her that usually ended poorly. She is NOT a good principle, she is NOT good with the kids and most of the kids don't like her...she always had it in for the band and Im not surprised her hands were in this. Mayor Scotty if you have a plan...I am listening.
