I am a recently retired Command Sergeant Major, after proudly serving my last month of a 26 year career(4thID)I was the rear detachment CSM for the 4th ID.I am glad that I didn,t get orders to deploy to this war that has no merit,no purpose. I would have rather been demoted to a private than to board a plane in that direction. The media try to potray that all soldiers are so happy to be serving their country over there.I,m telling you thats(not)true. There were so many soldiers that did not board that plane to Iraq.Lots of soldiers chose jail time and a reduction in rank.I was there first hand to witness it.Even though at the time of my active duty,I couldnt speak out because of the Chain of Command format.Remember I,m a civilian now and I have no chain of command. So I can finally speak,I,m very patriotic,I,m not an anti-war lying liberal.I,m a proud Republican thats gotta speak my mind

I hate to say it but you are right, Daily I see the results of this action, and you are on the money about the soldiers attitudes and beliefs CSM Retired wrote: I am a recently retired Command Sergeant Major, after proudly serving my last month of a 26 year career(4thID)I was the rear detachment CSM for the 4th ID.I am glad that I didn,t get orders to deploy to this war that has no merit,no purpose. So you are saying you had no ball's to say other than what you felt/told your soldier's to believe, until you retired. Hope you sleep well at night knowing you served with only a fraction of your heart. Go write a book like the rest of the retired Generals and CSMs. Say something again about soldiers not being happy to follow orders. I dare you.

If that is how you felt you had an OBLIGATION to ETS 7 years ago. And BS on the I couldn't speak out canard. That is a complete prevarication and we both know it.
We also both know that every soldier who chose to do the wrong thing instead of deploy is a direct reflection of your own weak and spineless leadership.
I guess the cheddar was just too good, though.

How in the world do you go through 26 years of service, make it to CSM and you have the grammar and structure of a middle school student? In regards to your statement about people being unhappy--of course they are unhappy, its war! But, they are doing the honorable thing and performing their duty. I see more requests for soldiers that WANT to deploy, than soldiers who pull the cowards card.
My advice, use that retirement money for a college education, learn basic composition and expand your vocabulary. Once you have accomplished those tasks, then redirect your thoughts in the appropriate direction, with more force and power through effective communications of your opinions, and perhaps you can affect change in a positive light for the soldiers and the country.
BTW, thank you for the services you did perform--26 years is to be commended.

I'm gonna put this baby to sleep and say that you were never a CSM. Probably just a lower enlisted who got dishonorably discharged and has angst towards the Army. Good Night. You know don't beat the CSM up. He served his cuntry and probably had to send alot of bad news home to parents about the war. His intergrity and loyality to his country is what he served 26 years for. May did 26 years or not he served his country. Some of you soldier fail to realized that speaking out against your president in the united army is considered an act of betrayel and could be accused of being a traitor. No i am not a retired csm. Yet i am a man who was raised in the army and served in the army. My rank is not important. The truths is alot of soldiers are taking jail over iraq. Yet the media feel that the american people don't need to know that. Well now you know. So next time you see a soldier in walmart or k-mart ask him if he's happy if so he a newbie. If not he's a man with a family he won't get to see for a year or so. She's a mom that has to find some trust worthy of watching her kids for a year so she can watch adults for a year.

It's social Darwinism, made for only the most intelligent, fitted, lucky and gracious; whose gonna have all those at once, only few. If you made it to CSM, and saying all these. I respect you, because most of the CSMs i know today thinks the army is their fathers bussiness; telling some 18yr old kid's parent who got killed in combat is nothing to them, infact they only need to send some E6 or 7, if his people demand too much then he sends 1SG. They would even try their best to make sure his parents don't get that money that made him give up his life if they can.
