Dyslexia
What is Dyslexia? When a person has difficulties with reading, writing, spelling and maybe even speaking, no matter how hard he or she tries, the problem could be a learning disability known as dyslexia. Dyslexia is a life-long language processing disorder that hinders the development of oral and written language skills. Children and adults with dyslexia can be highly intelligent, however they have a neurological disorder that causes the brain to process and interpret information differently. Since so much of what happens in a classroom is based on reading and writing, it’s important to identify dyslexia as early as possible and devise strategies to help a child succeed academically. What are the Effects of Dyslexia? Dyslexia can have different effects on different people, depending on the severity of the learning disability and the success of efforts to develop alternate learning methods. Traditionally dyslexia causes problems with reading, writing and spelling and those problems manifest themselves differently in each person. |

Killeen, I am dyslexic but I don't have the major problems you exhibit.Maybe because doing myt time dyslexia was not identified and I relied on memory and eye resting exercises to keep my vision from appearing blurry. I used overlays to keep my words onto the paper so you see I learned ways to compensate. I have a Master's Degree and hours on a Doctorate so you can over come if you work on it. It may be good to have someone proof your writing so others can clearly understand what you are writing.

that all well and good but not when you live alone and your husband is over in iraq so at least am not scared of what other ppl may think but people need to think before then go and make fun of people no matter how hard some people try with dyslexic try they never get far with writeing and so on they didn't get the help when they need . They found out about it to late in life or in school age so is that test really fair to kid like that no it is not. it great that you over came your learning disability but some people can not am not goin to let your no else tell me that suck cause of it cause at least am putting my self out there I think that take lot of guts for some people like me to do really but is I can see you and that other person could tell what I was saying so . Maybe you should just leave well enough alone.

That is true the teach tasks but I know it to be for true in the grade school not in high school but even grade school kids have to past part of that task to go to the next grade level this task test has just got out of hand. Thank you megian for saying sorry . Thank you Str8 for sayin what you said. I am on the childern side that have dyslexic am not the only one that think this test is unfair to them my mother work with the kids with dyslexic in the school she work in. I know that these kid work really really hard no matter how hard they try they just can't move on think about all those hours those kid spend in school then when the get home do there homework they can spend 6 hours just doing homework alone at home cause it so hard on them. In any case I am happy that killeen school did do what they did for the kids that don't past cause when you think about it they can take the test in the summer past it.

although I graduated in 05, I have cousins attending khs and this summer my family found out that they cannot take summer school classes because they didnt pass the taks test I think that is unfair. when i was in school i knew people who took the test as many times as they could but they still didnt pass everything not because they were stupid or didnt try but because they just didnt understand math or they just couldnt remember all the dates places and names for history etc. now on top of having to stress about the taks test high school students have to stress about how they are supposed to make up the classes they werent allowed to take during the summer plus the classes they need to move on to the next grade and *graduate*. just getting through high school is a big enough challenge without having to pass some dumb test that doesnt teach you anything your going to truly need for college or life. now they let the test interfer with you progressing at all? does anyone else see how this is destroying a generation and our society?

People, let it be known that this Poster is using my screen name to post lewd and vulgar postings at an unsuccessful attempt to sound somewhat remotely funny and witty. This poster obviously misspelled the last part of my screenname he added a "W" to Lo. He is posting from the same general location as I am according to the ISP address thats posted. |

I understand that this test is supposed to help us but at the same time I hate it because I found myself struggling in school ever since I came into the 8th grade. Now that I moved to Texas I find out I have to pass a test called TAKS, I find out I might not graduate or walk. I didnt need the to pass the test in Michigan even though it wasnt exactly the TAKS but it was called the MEAP and if you passed you got college credit. Im the only person in my family even close to graduating and it scares me that theres a chance I might not. And I feel that ever since i started school in Texas, the techers are teaching a lot more of TAKS and spending time on it than the regular things were supposed to learn. If I do fail most likely I'll be deppressed on wasting 12 yrs. of my life.

My comment is that the TAKS test is pretty stupid. People get good grades in school, study hard, and are good students...but when it comes down to this test they freeze up and dont know what to even do. So they take it and fail it,now they cant go on with their classmates...even though they did all what they can in the past. What is all that they can do now? I really feel that the state need to take away the TAKS test and all the other tests dey have planned for this test. Thank You.

Listen, I'm sorry, but if a kid goes to school for 12 years and passes all of their classes, THEY DESERVE TO GRADUATE! Why should one test tell a student that their twelve years were for nothing? I am just saying, my parents and grandparents never had to pass any damn taks test! They went to school and passed their classes for 12 years and graduated. There's no need to change it now. That test is just a test. It should not invalidate 12 years of education. Yes I passed the TAKS when I was a senior but a few of my friends did not, and I didn't think it was fair they were denied a diploma over a 8 hour testing process after attending and passing school for 12 damn years.
What do these kids who passed all 12 years have to show for their hard work? They will be treated by future employers like they were high school dropouts, how fair is that? Give them their diploma, plain and simple. |

i understand that they want to ban it because kids shouldnt focus on one thing an entire year and for us that would be the TAKS tests.
because of that fact we are not learning as much as we could be at the said fact. We learn less because of TAKS. So I would understand them wanting to ban it, that way we can learn more, and surprisingly all of this is coming from a 13 yr old 8th grade student. I would rather have 1 semester test in place of the TAKS rather than have all 4 TAKS tests. Even if we had TAKS i would'nt complain on the fact that we get to do it on the computer. |
