As it states in the article I am so happy Same Sex couples can marry. Love is Love and now it is legal for anyone who loves each other to be able to celebrate it thru marriage.
I have performed many Same Sex Ceremonies and now I will be proud to make them legal.

Wow, I think Mr. Katz says it right, same sex couples are not longer second class citizen. Kudos to him.

Personally, I applaud this decision and think it's much overdo.

I don't care one way or the other about gay marriage. However, the 'PEOPLE' of California voted on this very issue in the not too distant past and gay marriage was overwhelmingly vote down 2 to 1. It figures the courts in California ignore the views of actual citizens who live there....

The California Supreme Court did this contrary to what 61% of voters marked on the ballot in a previous election.

Regardless of the issue, this was a major usurption in power and efforts should be taken to recall these judges for overthowing the decision of the voter.

So Much for the peoples votes. The supreme court did our state and country a great injustice in their actions. This is just plain awful!

In 2000 the people of California spoke loudly and clearly on the value of marriage when 61 percent of voters approved Proposition 22.

Bush and the terrorists had nothing to do with it Maria.

The American voter has lost all power in this state thanks to the decision of activist judges.

With all the world-wide events going on it is so very sad that the only group you are interested in for front page news is the selfish, self-centered gays. What people do in private is indeed their own business, but this constant force feeding by your paper and the Hollywood media, does get a little old. Protecting legal rights in terms of a civil union is one thing, but making a mockery of marriage is not reason for celebration as you are trying to put forward. No wonder the Press Telegram has declined so in quality when your main emphasis is Gays and Gay Pride Week. Why can't Gays live their own lives without trying to force acceptance upon others?

Gary Williams got it right. I'm tired of hearing about Gays and marriage. There are more important things going on in the world.

I remember being taught to respect the President of the United States no matter who is elected. I still believe this to be correct. I find it disrespectful when it is said "This President is this..." and This President cannot do that...". We should stand by the person that we chose by an overall majority. This is what once reflected respect among us and commanded respect from those around the world.
With that being said:
I would like to put my trust and belief that the people of the state of California will once again revote to keep the definition of "marriage" as it once was, between a man and a woman. "Gay" used to be another word for being happy, it no longer is. Marriage is not so much a state of being as it is a public institution. The general opinion of those who oppose my view is that it is racist and hateful. It is not. The homosexual/lesbian lifestyle is not a race, in fact, it is anti-race.
Should the vote of the people of the state of California concur with the recent "over-ruling" of the people then I would respect that. I will then tolerate it, as I do many things, but, I will not have to accept it as the new norm.
The Traditional family, The Nuclear family, The Unclear family,...what's next?
People have a right to happiness but not at the expense of others. In the end and if need be I will respectfully agree to disagree.

First of all, to simply respect the President because he's in that position is ridiculous. He's a public servant and as such, he has to answer to the public. I didn't vote for him and refuse to accept his bullshit agenda. If you're not questioning your elected officials, then maybe you don't deserve your right to vote. We're all brought up to believe certain things, doesn't mean they're right.

Secondly, how is equal rights to marriage gained at the cost of others. How is it affecting your life in the negative sense?

Long Beach has real problems, and none of them have anything to do with gays, or their want to get married. Get over your hatred and phobias. Move on, and be concerned with your own life, and gays getting married don't effect anyone, unless you let it, and theres no reason to let it.

So the vote of the people of California in 2000 means nothing to you? Do we stop showing up to the polls and let the California Supreme Court decide what is good for the people? Sounds like the end of democracy to me.

A few years ago, after gay marriages in San Francisco were invalidated, Mayor Gavin Newsom asked, "Where in our constitution does it say we have the right to discriminate?"
No other question brought forth more relevancy to this matter. The State Supreme Court made the appropriate legal decision. Banning gay marriage is discrimination. Case closed

i'm pleased as punch by the court's ruling, but the comments to this article are a reality check that all is still not right. the homophobia is suffocating.

to all those wondering when the people's votes stopped counting, i ask you to remember a little presidential election back in 2000.
