I'm hoping some Austin locals can help me. I'm planning on a one night camping trip at a location to the west of Austin... There's a road named New Pass Mine Road that we're hoping to camp on... but I can't tell from the maps whether or not it is publicly accessible. The road is about 24 miles west of Austin on hwy 50.
Anyone have any recommendations about that road? Or another place to pitch a tent? The goal is to see the stars without any light pollution. There is no such place left in northern California, sadly. Thanks in advance.. |

New pass road goes to a private mine. There is several campgrounds in thearea and RV Parks in Austin. Our air is clear and you can stand in the middle of town and look up and see the stars!!! We don't have polution.
