I'm interested in D.R. Horton and complaints that have been filed against them in the past.

I don't want to say much more but please contact me - I'd like to hear about your experience with them.

Seems to me you have no common sense on whats going on out here. Yes they are cheap houses out here but when after a year there are 6 inch cracks in drywall somebody should be held accountable.

And to that master electrician that thinks he is so smart, I am also a master electrician and everything that goes in a house is tested by the underwriters labratory. I have used siemens for years and never had a problem. You must be an idiot to think that square D is good stuff. How many commercial jobs have you been involved in. Apparently none cause about every high rise in denver has siemens in it cause square D is not smart enough to make panel boards that are installer friendly. Try retaking the the test cause now because you wont pass thinking like that.

These companies bill their inspectors out at $80-$90 an hour, meanwhile pay them $10-$12/hour. Then they expect their technicians to be at 4 different sites at the same time testing compaction and concrete. Never met a dirt tester who didnt smoke weed either.
Buy a home built in the 50's and 60's when quality mattered and you can park an RV in your driveway. I live in a circa 1960's neighborhood with no HOA, no community convenants and it exudes freedom and liberty.
I test dirt, and I don't smoke weed. I worked for CTL and the engineers ignored everything I pointed out (from my 10 yrs experience) about the expansive clays. I wanted expansivity tests and they said it wasnt in the budget. I was eventually fired for looking for another employer.
Geocal has top-notch people, but they don't do much residential work and they cost more, which drives away the bottom-liners. However CDOT trusts them enough to have them do the QA on the freeway expansions.

I looked at a D.R. Horton house in Timnath - seemed OK, but I asked for a 10 year warranty instead of the standard 1 year one. They laughed, and told me "we wouldn't build a house that we wouldn't live in ourselves" I said fine, so a 10 yr. warranty will be easy for you to write. They did not take me up on it.

We are in the process of buying a DR Horton Home in Vacaville CA. called Carrington Manor subdivision. We allways check on the house every week to see the progress. One day we notice a crack on the Slab foundation that extended over 10 feet from the sliding door to the living room/family room. The builder covered the crack of the foundation with somekind of quickcrete. Is this a major concern?

Could be. How wide was it? Is the slab post-tensioned? Ask to see the geotechnical report for the subdivision - does the report mention 1)Expansive/Collapsible soils? 2)How deep is the fill under the slab? Do you have a cut/fill transition under your house? 3)Is there groundwater, and if so, how deep?
You may want to consult your own engineer to inspect this house, or at least mention to the builder that you're thinking about it. Geocon in Sacramento is pretty decent.
