They will regret this ban.........itll kill the city tax base..........and business revenues. States and cities alike are feeling the prohibition repurcussions country wide and many are comming to grips that it was a bad idea to start with as revenues continue to drop.....some things govmnt causes in the market place to happen and repealing the bans is the surest way to get people and business moving again.....

Big Brother at it again. Next thing you know you will not be able to smoke inside your own houes. I do not smoke but then if I do not want to be around some one who smokes then I do go to places where people smoke. A bussiness should be able to deceide wheter or not it wants to allow smoking. If you do not want to be around the smoke then do not go to that bussines.

If restaurants or other work places want to still allow smoking, they must have an outdoor patio or separate room with a separate ventilation system. The city would also charge $250 for a smoking permit.
The Wichita City Council heard from 20 citizens before the vote. The people were split both for and against the ordinance. However, those against the ordinance had different reasons.
The American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Lung Association and Tobacco Free Kansas opposed the ordinance. They'd rather the city adopt a comprehensive ordinance. They says that's the only way to protect all citizens from second hand smoke.

I smoked through 2 pregnancies, and the whole time my children (I didn't have baby goats) were growing up. I did this with my doctor's approval.

Almost forgot, I watched my Dad and my Father-in-law die of Prostate cancer that had metasticized to the bones and lungs. Both non-smokers. What exactly was your point?

The Wichita public smoking law is a good compromise that probably won't cause an increase in drunk driving deaths as stricter bans have done. Credit is due to the Wichita Father Holy Smokes and the rest who helped him fight such a ban. http://www.holy-smoke.com/

Obviously old enough to remember when the majority smoked with no ill effects to others. It's kind of funny the baby boomers have the longest life expectancy in spite of the ETS we grew up around and now that smoking is less then half what it was 40 years ago the number of children with asthma have increased drastically. Explain that one????

Its actually a far better law than an outright smoking ban.

wow thirty something should really take a look at how she (assuming you are a woman no offence if your not) views people in general. i have 2 beautiful daughters and i choose not to smoke around them, but that is exactly it i choose it, and the only reason you are not having a hissy fit over this ban is becuase you agree with it, let some body put a ban (and violate your constitutional rights) on something you enjoy doing and then see how you feel.

I think this secondhand smoke business is very overblown. My dad smoked everyday around my sister and I when I was young and I doubt it did very much damage at all to us but it could have done a little. About every fast food restaurant already has smoking bans (except for NUWAY restaurants). I only go to the nice smoking allowed restaurants about once a week for 45 minutes to an hour so that's not near as much exposure to smoke compared to me and my sister when we were young. I am an adult now and choose to smoke and am ticked because the government wants to take another of our precious rights away again. GOVERNMENT, STAY OUT OF OUR LIVES!!!

If you look at any old person most have browned or yellowed teeth. It comes from age, coffee, tea etc etc etc. it is only in recent years they have had whiteners. Now smokers can have teeth as white as yours. Look at an elephants tusk they are yellow do they smoke?? Some things come with age. thirty something wrote: they smell have yellow teeth and are gross. when i see a smoker i always think of low class people. not sure why maybe they just look dirty to me. this is one thing i am glad the government has stepped in on. why should these little children and babies have to be subjected to their parents stupid habit? awful judgmental aren't we???? There is no proof that ETS is harmful to adults much less children. I was a baby boomer and ETS was everywhere. The number of smokers is less then half of what it was then and the number of places that you can smoke is 80% less then it was then, yet asthma in children is on the rise. Could it be the ETS gave us immunity????? WHO tried to bury a study that suggests that children around ets are 22% less susceptible to lung cancer. So who are you to decide, Do you suggest that the government raise our children???? Where do you draw the line with government intervention???? http://www.davehitt.com/facts/who.html

i am not sure of statistics. i realy never pay attention to them because i think they are fixed alot of the times. the government already tells us how to raise our children. what about immunizations? they keep coming up with more shots we have to give our kids or they will not bne able to enter school. thats crap! now they have the new HPV shot for girls. soon the government will make that mandatory too! i know smoking causes heart disease and look at all of us that are getting that. maybe it was from the second hand smoke? so you did not say why did you decide not to smoke around your kids? and do your kids smoke and if not would you want them too?

Judgeing others as "low class" is wrong. you have more dangerous, unhealthy air quality in your home than outside. Regardless of how "clean" you think you are. Your children are learning that its ok to judge and lable others in unhealthy distructive ways.
