Bryant was anything but black and white

Full story: DNJ.com

The life of Sherrod Bryant, a free black man who owned slaves and hundreds of acres, is nearly as obscure as Long Hunter State Park where he was brought to life Saturday in an historical presentation.

I think it is just great that his offspring have been able to trace him back, and I would surely like to know how he came to be a free black man with "Sherrod" for a first name. My family's surname was "Sherrod" until 1861, when my grandad fell out with the rest of the family and changed his name to the original English spelling. Sherrod Bryant is to be admired for his tremendous success in those days.

From what I was told as a child, the reason he was free,(he was of mix race and born as a free child to a white mother and black father) whom at the time or sometime after was also given papers of freedom and passage. As for owning slaves it's not true. Yes he did have blacks that work on his land, but they were free as well. I am a 4th generation decendant of his. This is the history that was told to us about our ancestery. Yes the research will continue.

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Taurus

This is another day in which you should be monitoring the progress you've made so far with the festivities and deciding what has still to be done. You're operating very efficiently right now but you'll be even more effective if you can plan your time carefully, write lists of what you must buy or make, and be realistic about your capabilities. But don't expect to work miracles.
