I am a resident of Keeseville, and sick of seeing more and more people living off of welfare. Even in this economy there are still jobs available. It takes more effort to live off the system then it does to go get a job. But oddly enough there is a hugh amount of them in this area. Many of which, have no legitimate reason for not working. The laws need to be changed, so that the people who are making a honest effort to work and be productive, should be the ones recieving assistance on a as needed basis. Instead of rewarding the lack of effort and laziness of people who just want a hand out. I am fine with it if you have a rough go of it and need help. What I am angry about is people who make it a way of life.

Yes, Though In Agreement, Yes, Many People "Abuse" The System. The Broad Term "Welfare" Needs To Be Defined. Are People Just "Lazy" And Not Want To Work Or Is It People Down And Out On Their Luck And Just A Victim Of The Hardships Of The Economy. This Is The "Starving North Country" For Many. However, If One Qualifies For Programs Than These Programs Are Meant To Help People Get Back On Their Feet And I Believe Monitored Or With Accountability To Make Sure They Still Qualify And Not Just Abuse What Is Given To Them. For Instance, Food Stamps Is To Help Supplement A Food Bill Each Month And Certains Items Not Allowed. However, Seeing People Buy Chips Or Perhaps Soda With Food Stamps Is Allowed ... However, As With WIC Only "Healthy" Foods Are Allowed. Who's Fault Is This? The Food Stamp Policy Needs Revamping. Though Foods Stamps Help. Just Not Our Tax Payers Paying For Food And Chips. Health Insurance Is Also An Issue As Well As "Welfare" Checks. Also, Social Security, Disability & Compensation Issues Or Unemployment Even. Could Be Part Of This. So, "Welfare" Is A Broad Term That Should Not Be Targeted To "EVERYONE!" As Not "EVERYONE" Abuses The System. And If One Knows Of Abuse Than There Are Also Abuse Hot Lines That Should Be Turned In. So In Conclusion Simply Know The Facts And Not Assume There Is A Huge Amount In The Area. Minimum Wage A Later Topic ... Who's At Fault?

I completely and whole-heartedly agree. Again, this is a common case of a form of ignorance. Using the term "everyone" does not clearly represent the whole population of people "living off the system." There is a process that must be completed before someone can even receive welfare supplements. So instead of judging a population, based on possibly only a few people, maybe you should get your facts straight and do a little research.

well, since you must have done YOUR research to post something like that, give it to us.

What percentege of people on welfare in this area are honetly in need and unable to help themselves, vs tthose living off the system?

Dont tell another person their opinions are wrong because of a "common case of a form of ignorance"

(makes perfect sense)

and instruct them to go get their facts straight, and not present any facts of your own...

I would like you to tell us the real numbers, since you clearly must know them because you tell us we cant possibly judge a "population" based on "possibly" only a few people....

The Reality Check of K'Ville Is ... Glad You Noticed My Style Of Writing. It Caught Your Attention The Petty "Stuff" Considering The Fact My Background Is Unknown To You. That's A Great Thing About America. Freedom Of Speech.

well, by the way, I certainly do know how to properly type.

The thing is, with the new modern age of technology the computer picks up spelling errors however, doesn't pick up the petty stuff such as first word capitalized.

This entire petty issue and forum is not meant for attacks it is to address persons thoughts and feelings and give the right of freedom of speech. Perhaps problem areas of communities or positive areas.

When one listens to someone make a speech do you actually listen to how many "uuuhmms" that are said or do you actually listen to what the person is saying.

Will Go Back And Better Proofread What I Write In The Future.

You go ahead and report me tough guy. Be sure to spell it out as well, "he made a point someone did not like, and they tried to attack him, he pointed out how foolish the attack was, and I am very hurt by that." and "his ideas are diffrent from mine so I dont want him to be able to voice them anymore"

This is an open forum. The subject at hand was scum living off the system. I will discuss it as I feel fit, and however I like. Should you not like what I have to say, go elsewere, or dont read it.

Report me hero... and be sure to send me a copy of your report. I need another laugh at something pathetic and cowardly.

As a resident of Keeseville and a former business owner, village and Town officials as well as residents need to stick together and unite and stand tall to put Keeseville back on the map again as a place with heritage and one day thriving business's once again as in the past.

With any community you will find problems such as drugs or even lack of business and eyesores.

With laws and enforcement some of these problems may lessen but perhaps never go away.

Looking in our own neighborhood and communities everyone sees a vision and has some type of input.

If one doesn't want to help themselves or community than that is their own rights.

Though whether a doctor, lawyer, business owner or young person, senior citizen, politician we all can make our communities a better place to live and maintain the heritage for our future generations.

Let's begin with you & I!

First, I did not say everyone. Please reread before assuming that I was implying everyone. I know that there are many hard working people in this town that don't deserve to see there tax dollars being given to people who have no desire to work. I have personally seen quite a few people, over a long period of time, playing the system and it is very discouraging. Especially, when do hard working people having a rough time get no help and are told they qualify. Don't you think that these assistance should be used for people who have put forth the effort and may just need a helping hand from time to time? It should be used as a means to get more people to work and send a message that "if you are working hard and having a hard time, we will help you get on your feet." Not the message it has sent. I have lived down town and I have seen it. Perhaps you should go and observe for a period of time and then your can get your facts straight. Those services are meant to help people in a time of need, they are not intended to become a way of life. It makes the whole system look bad.

I agree with some of whats been said. Some people do need the help, rather it be for someone who made a mistake of having a child they can't take care of or someone who has a child so that we can take care of them. Either way, that child needs to be taken care of, but what about the adult that has no kids, works full time and can get no assistance. There is plenty of us out there that know what it's like to struggle, can barely make ends meet, but I would rather have that then see a child starve. The system will never be perfect by any standards. People having morals is the issue here and let's face it, society will never be perfect either.

Unfortunately nothing will change. I believe the main reason anyone is here commenting on these issues, is that they are frustrated and know deep down that nothing will change, it’s just a place to vent anonymously. The system is broke and all people do is cry about it. The ones that get involved and put forth time and effort end up even more frustrated with all the red tape and political bullshit. We vote for these assholes then complain when nothing gets better. The society at large has become a bunch of politically correct pussies. We give equal rights for people to come to this country and exploit it, then we all sit around astonished to what the country is turning into. It’s time to wake up..

Not everyone wants to but has to get help for good reasons, such as single mom or dad with a dead beat doesn't support their children. If all parents shared responsibility and cost of children many people wouldn't even ask for help.Welfare isn't some great thing that every one wants.

If more people took advantage of such things as birth control and abortion clinics there would'nt be so many unwanted children for other people like myself to support. I don't enjoy working 60+ hours a week to support "single moms" and losers on disibilty. I see 18/19 and 20 year old males collecting food stamps and welfare. What a disgrace.

Sounds like people are either complaining because they couldn't get welfare,or a dead beat whose complaining that they have to pay child support.
People on here live in glass houses, abort kids, don't be born with a disability or you'll be critized for it.
I know for a fact many who become disabled and get approved for ssi or ssd have to pay the state back out of their back pay if they got assistance while disability goes through, you can have heart failure and take you 3 years before ssi or ssd is approved.
There is allot of people on assistance that shouldn't be or shouldn't have to be if court orders were followed like pay for half of childrens insurance, childcare expenses, child or childrens medical supplies, takes two people to bring a child in the world so critize the single parent because dead beat quits their job everytime child support catches up to them.I noticed sticky buns only complains about single moms.

So what started in the beginning as someone posting their opinion has now gotten completely out of control and completely off-topic.(especially with this last joker billiy bob thornton; nice spelling)

I work for DSS. Due to confidentiality i cannot give you the numbers but i will put things this way.

It is not a small minority of poeple that try to rip off the system. It is also not only low income people that try to do it either. You would be surprised the amount of middle to upper lever income poeple that just want more free handouts. It is no doubt that times are tough and while our fearless leader and all his million and billionaire friends are getting richer telling us the economy is getting better, i can PROVE different.

And i do support helping poeple get on their feet and rpoviding assistance for those that need it. But please do not be so quick to judge those that are trying to rip off the system when our president has made it (he changed the Food Stamp program personally and re-named it) so easy. Parents do not need to persue child support and other courses of action in order to receive Services. So why should they? We (the State and Federal gov't) give so many handouts that we are now instilling laziness and dependance generationally.

My opinion: There is an old saying that fits perfectly.... Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Aquarius

If you're still happily munching chocolates and all sorts of other goodies, you'll have to take yourself in hand at some point during the coming fortnight. Maybe you'll have to compensate for all the festive over-eating by taking more exercise or cutting back on the calories, or perhaps you'll decide that you can't delay giving up smoking any longer. As Mercury turns in your twelfth house of secrets, messages you receive at this time may be very subtle or contain hidden meanings meant only for your understanding.
